Democrat Josh Stein Slammed for Campaigning While Hurricane Ravages North Carolina
Critics Call Out Stein for Fundraising While Thousands Suffer in His Own State.
North Carolina’s Democrat Attorney General, Josh Stein, is facing a wave of backlash after he was seen cozying up with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro at a campaign event, while his own state reels from the devastation left by Hurricane Helene. Stein, who is running for governor, was heavily criticized for prioritizing political fundraising over addressing the crisis back home.
A post shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Rep. Kathy Manning showed the two Democrats smiling and socializing at the event in Greensboro, NC, just days after the hurricane left large swaths of North Carolina in ruin. Manning's tone-deaf caption, "There’s no joshin’ around", sparked outrage among North Carolinians grappling with the destruction.
The hurricane, which hit on Friday night, has led to over 130 confirmed deaths across multiple states, including 30 in the Asheville area alone. Thousands are still missing, with emergency response teams working around the clock to provide relief to those trapped or displaced.
While the devastation unfolds, Stein's decision to rub elbows at a political event rather than help manage the crisis in his state has been called "disgusting" and "vile" by critics on social media. Here’s a look at the most damning reactions:
“You have to be kidding me,” one commenter wrote. “The western part of the state has thousands of people missing. More than 30 dead and you had a party here today?”
Another called out the Democrats for being out of touch, writing, “Democrats fundraising in NC while many in our state are devastated right now and have lost EVERYTHING. Vile, evil, and disgusting.”
A third person remarked, "You money grubbing **. You just lost the election."**
As North Carolinians continue to suffer, Stein’s political career might be suffering too. His apparent lack of empathy, fundraising while "people are literally dying in the mountains," as one person noted, has left voters questioning whether he has the leadership required to govern during a crisis.
While Stein hobnobs with Democratic elites, citizens across North and South Carolina are counting their losses, desperate for leadership and action. This incident is a perfect reflection of everything that’s wrong with Democrat politicians today—more focused on gaining political power than addressing the real needs of their constituents.
