Speaker Johnson Dismantles ‘No Kings’ Protests as Political Theater
House Speaker exposes the irony behind leftist rallies accusing Trump of authoritarianism amid Democrat-led government shutdown.

House Speaker Mike Johnson isn’t buying the left’s latest narrative and he’s not afraid to say it.
Following a weekend of coordinated “No Kings” protests across the country many organized by Democrat activists and attended by elected officials Johnson fired back during an appearance on ABC’s This Week, calling the events nothing more than political theater designed to distract from the Democrats’ own failures.
“If President Trump was a king, the government would be open right now,” Johnson told host Jonathan Karl, pointing out the obvious contradiction.
Indeed, while protesters shouted about authoritarianism, Washington is in the middle of yet another government shutdown driven, as Johnson reminded viewers, by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s unwillingness to negotiate in good faith.
And here’s the irony Johnson exposed:
Protesters rallied freely on the National Mall which remains open under Trump-era leadership.
During the 2013 shutdown, Barack Obama closed national parks and monuments, even erecting barriers to block access to the WWII Memorial.
Despite Democrats claiming Trump is some authoritarian threat, they’re freely organizing rallies and dominating media headlines, not hiding in fear of repression.
If that’s tyranny, it’s the weakest form we’ve ever seen.
“They needed a stunt, they needed a show,” Johnson said bluntly. “Chuck Schumer needs political cover right now he’s closed the government down because he’s under pressure from his own party.”
Let’s not forget: during previous shutdowns, it was Democrats who voted with Republicans to reopen the government and were chastised for it by their own base. Now, they’re doing everything they can to blame Trump and his supporters, despite having the keys to the Senate and the White House.
The “No Kings” slogan might sound catchy, but it crumbles under scrutiny. President Trump governed with more restraint and deference to the Constitution than the Biden administration, which routinely bypasses Congress with executive overreach, weaponized federal agencies, and open disdain for political dissent.
The American people are waking up to the left’s favorite tactic accuse your opponent of the very thing you’re doing.
Speaker Johnson’s clarity on the matter is a refreshing dose of truth in a media landscape flooded with partisan hysteria. The left can host all the choreographed protests they want but no amount of shouting “no kings” will cover up the economic disaster, border chaos, and shutdown dysfunction their own leadership has caused.
