Johnson Slams Biden Border Policies After FBI Arrests Alleged Hamas Terrorist in Louisiana
Speaker says suspect linked to Oct. 7 massacre proves open borders have created a national security nightmare.

House Speaker Mike Johnson issued a blistering rebuke of the Biden administration’s failed immigration policies on Sunday after the FBI arrested a Hamas-linked terror suspect in Louisiana a man believed to be connected to the October 7, 2023, massacre in Israel that left more than 1,200 people dead.
“It’s alarming to all of us,” Johnson said. “We know that terrorists got across the border, and I don't think anybody on planet Earth can discern exactly how many. We’ll be living with the threat and the ramifications of that open border, probably for the rest of our lives.”
The suspect, Mahmoud Amin Ya’qub Al-Muhtadi, is a Gazan native who entered the United States in September 2024 nearly a year after the brutal Hamas attack. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Al-Muhtadi used a fraudulently obtained visa to get into the country and was living in Louisiana before being arrested earlier this month.
The Department of Justice confirmed that Al-Muhtadi was part of a paramilitary unit that participated in the Oct. 7 assault the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.
“After hiding out in the United States, this monster has been found and charged with participating in the atrocities of October 7,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi in a statement.
This arrest isn’t just disturbing it’s a damning indictment of the previous administration’s border policy failures, which Republicans have long warned would allow threats to walk right into the country. And they were right.
The numbers don’t lie:
14 million illegal immigrants were living in the U.S. by the end of 2023 a record high, according to the Pew Research Center.
Under Biden, border encounters hit an all-time high of 2.4 million in 2023.
Nearly 300 individuals on the terror watchlist have been apprehended at the border since 2021 and those are just the ones we know about.
Johnson praised current efforts by the Trump administration and law enforcement to root out national security threats, saying, “I’m certainly glad that we have an administration who is prioritizing rounding up these dangerous people. It’s a great relief to a lot of folks down there.”
But the Speaker also warned that the damage has already been done. “They had a wide-open border,” Johnson said of the former Biden administration. “The impacts could last for decades to come.”
Indeed, this incident highlights the real-world consequences of globalist, open-border ideology not just increased crime and drug trafficking, but actual terror operatives embedded in American communities.
As the Trump administration works to restore sanity and security to the border, this arrest should be a wake-up call to every American: national security begins at the border, and anything less than a complete overhaul is a gamble with American lives.
