Jihadist Government Massacres Hundreds of Civilians in Syria

Over the past three days, hundreds of civilians in Syria have been slaughtered by forces under the control of the country’s jihadist government, with the coastal provinces of Tartus and Latakia bearing the brunt of the bloodshed.

According to reports, at least 530 people have been confirmed dead, though some estimates put the number lower, at around 150. The massacre has been attributed to Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, the leader of the terrorist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), an offshoot of Al-Qaeda that has ties to ISIS.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz condemned the atrocity, stating that al-Jolani had shed his moderate disguise and fully embraced his role as a jihadist warlord.

• Israel has vowed to defend itself and take action against threats from Syria, including those targeting the Druze population.

• Analysts warn that Iran is still fueling instability in Syria, using the ongoing violence to expand its influence.

Ahmad Sharawi of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) cautioned that this violence was not just inevitable but a "ticking time bomb." Despite claims that Syria’s civil war had ended, radical Islamist groups continue to wage war on civilians, ensuring that the region remains in chaos.

While the Biden administration remains largely silent on the growing crisis, Israel has made it clear that it will not stand by while jihadist forces massacre innocent people.
