ISIS Suicide Bomber Slaughters 20 Christians at Syrian Church

As Islamic extremists regain ground in Syria, Christian communities face renewed terror under a weak and fractured regime.

A brutal suicide bombing carried out by an ISIS terrorist has left at least 20 Christians dead and 52 others wounded at an Orthodox church in Damascus, Syria. The attack unfolded during Sunday services at Mar Elias Church in Dweila, a Christian neighborhood on the outskirts of the capital.

According to Syria’s interior ministry, the attacker stormed into the sanctuary, opened fire on worshipers, and then detonated an explosive vest. Eyewitnesses say that church members bravely tried to stop the jihadist before the blast, but their efforts came too late.

  • Graphic footage showed pews ripped apart and bloodied bodies strewn across the floor, with some victims reportedly children.

  • Syria ranks 18th globally for Christian persecution, according to Open Doors USA, with over 500,000 Christians living under the constant threat of Islamist violence.

  • This is the first successful jihadist strike on a church since Islamic extremists toppled the Assad regime last December, raising fears of escalating religious violence.

One survivor, Issam Nasr, gave a heartbreaking account “We have never held a knife in our lives. All we ever carried were our prayers.” But prayers alone weren’t enough to stop the carnage fueled by radical Islamic hatred.

The current interim government, led by Sunni Islamist Ahmed al-Sharaa a man with known ties to al-Qaeda has repeatedly promised to protect religious minorities. Instead, he’s presiding over a nation where Christian blood now stains the floors of its churches.

The mainstream media barely blinks when Christians are murdered by Islamic terrorists. But this isn’t just another tragedy in a far-off land it’s a sobering warning of what happens when the West abandons its role as a defender of freedom and faith.

This horrifying attack highlights the urgent need for decisive global leadership. The Biden administration has remained silent, seemingly more concerned with appeasing radical regimes than defending innocent lives. Under President Trump, ISIS was crushed and church attacks plummeted. Now, with weak leadership back in power, the terror has returned.
