Jets Cut Ties With Aaron Rodgers Ending Short-Lived Era
The veteran QB’s time in New York is over after just two seasons marked by injury and disappointment.

The Aaron Rodgers experiment in New York is officially over. The Jets announced they are moving on from the four-time MVP quarterback, bringing an abrupt end to a tenure that started with high hopes but ultimately fell short.
In a statement released Thursday, Head Coach Aaron Glenn and General Manager Darren Mougey confirmed the decision, stating they had informed Rodgers of their intent to “move in a different direction” at quarterback.
Rodgers arrived in 2023 via trade with the Green Bay Packers, bringing a wave of excitement to a fan base desperate for success. Many hoped the veteran quarterback would finally deliver stability and playoff contention. But reality struck fast just four plays into his Jets debut, Rodgers suffered a devastating Achilles injury, sidelining him for the entire season.
The 2024 season offered a chance at redemption, but despite Rodgers starting all 17 games, the Jets limped to a dismal 5-12 record. While Rodgers put up respectable numbers 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns, the third-best single-season totals in franchise history his presence couldn’t reverse the team’s fortunes.
Chairman Woody Johnson praised Rodgers for his contributions, saying he “embodied all that it meant to be a New York Jet” and “embraced our fans and our city.” The team even posted a tribute on X, thanking Rodgers for his time in New York.
Yet, as of this publication, Rodgers has remained silent on the decision.
The Jets now find themselves searching for their next quarterback, while Rodgers faces an uncertain future. Does he retire after 19 seasons, or does he find another team willing to take a chance on a 40-year-old QB coming off back-to-back disappointing years?
For the Jets, it’s another chapter in their long history of quarterback struggles. For Rodgers, it’s the end of an era that never really began.
