DOJ Reportedly Preparing Indictment Against James Comey

Former FBI Director may face perjury charges tied to 2020 testimony as statute of limitations closes in.

The long-awaited reckoning for former FBI Director James Comey may finally be at hand. Multiple outlets reported Wednesday that the Department of Justice is preparing to indict Comey, with sources indicating the charges are likely tied to false statements made during his 2020 congressional testimony about the FBI’s conduct during the Russia investigation.

The indictment, according to MSNBC’s Carol Leonnig, has been “in the works for some time” and is being accelerated due to the five-year statute of limitations that expires this month.

“They are arguing that Comey there is evidence to suggest Comey lied to Congress in his testimony on the Hill in September of 2020,” Leonnig said. “The five-year statute runs this month.”

In other words, the clock is ticking and the Justice Department knows it.

Comey, who presided over the now-debunked “Crossfire Hurricane” investigation into then-candidate Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, has been a lightning rod for controversy ever since. His handling of that probe, along with his leaking of memos to the press and his repeated clashes with President Trump, earned him hero status among Democrats and deep suspicion among conservatives.

But now, the walls may be closing in.

Former U.S. Attorney Michael Moore appeared on CNN, clearly uncomfortable with the prospect of Comey facing justice, suggesting it would be yet another example of Trump "punishing political enemies." He then brushed off the indictment process, calling it “the lowest bar” for prosecutors and referencing the old joke about being able to “indict a ham sandwich.”

Translation: The Left is already laying the groundwork to claim Comey is the victim not the man who helped fuel one of the most damaging political hoaxes in American history.

Let’s not forget what this is really about:

  • James Comey greenlit and oversaw an FBI investigation based on the discredited Steele Dossier, which was funded by the Hillary Clinton campaign.

  • He signed off on FISA warrants riddled with errors and omissions including failing to disclose that key evidence contradicted the FBI’s narrative.

  • He testified to Congress under oath in 2020, defending those decisions and that’s where the perjury charges could come in.

The potential indictment would come just as the public is finally waking up to the scale of corruption that infected the FBI under Comey's leadership. While the Durham Report stopped short of issuing widespread criminal charges, it confirmed what many Americans already knew: the Russia collusion narrative was a politically motivated hit job, and the FBI under Comey played a central role.

If Comey is indicted, it won’t be some partisan witch hunt. It’ll be long-overdue accountability for a man who weaponized federal law enforcement for political ends, then lied about it under oath.

And for those who think this is about revenge? Think again. This is about restoring trust in our institutions and ensuring that deep state actors don’t get to rewrite the rules to target political opponents.

It’s not just Trump who deserves justice. The American people do.
