Jack Smith Grilled by House GOP Over Politicized Trump Investigations

Republicans hammer Biden’s special counsel for targeting Trump allies and abusing power in unprecedented prosecution.

Special Counsel Jack Smith came under intense scrutiny during a fiery House Judiciary Committee hearing Thursday, as Republicans grilled him over what many believe to be a politically weaponized investigation aimed squarely at former President Donald Trump and his allies. The testimony, spanning several hours, painted a damning picture of an unelected prosecutor wielding enormous power with little accountability all under the watchful eye of the Biden administration.

Smith, appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland in 2022, is at the center of two high-profile indictments against President Trump one related to the events of January 6, and another involving classified documents. Yet Republicans were not convinced the investigations had anything to do with justice and everything to do with politics.

“You, like the president’s men for Richard Nixon, went after your political enemies,” charged Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA). “They were the enemies of the president, and you were their arm, weren’t you?”

Smith repeatedly insisted that his team “followed the facts and followed the law.” But GOP lawmakers pointed to clear signs of bias and overreach:

  • Smith’s team reportedly accessed phone records of Republican lawmakers, including Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), without proper disclosure an alarming breach of constitutional protections.

  • Rep. Russell Fry (R-SC) accused Smith of breaking the 60-day rule before an election, tampering with evidence, and launching what he called “a very partisan attack against the president.”

  • Smith admitted to using secondhand testimony, such as that from controversial former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson raising serious credibility concerns about the foundation of his case.

The hearing laid bare what many Americans already suspect: that the Department of Justice, under President Joe Biden, has become an extension of the Democratic Party targeting conservatives while shielding the Left.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), chairman of the committee, exposed the political theater behind the prosecutions. “That’s the degree the Left and Democrats were willing to go to get President Trump,” he said, referencing Hutchinson’s unreliable testimony. “Putting on the witness stand somebody everybody knows is making it up.”

Even more disturbing were revelations that Smith believes he may be targeted for indictment himself a bizarre moment in which the prosecutor claimed he is now a potential victim of political retaliation. That didn’t sit well with those who see Smith not as a victim, but a willing participant in a corrupt system hellbent on taking down Trump before 2024.

President Trump responded in real time on Truth Social: “Deranged Jack Smith is being DECIMATED before Congress... He destroyed many lives under the guise of legitimacy. Jack Smith is a deranged animal, who shouldn’t be allowed to practice Law.”

The broader picture couldn’t be clearer. Under Biden, the Justice Department has launched a full-blown campaign to criminalize political opposition. Jack Smith’s role is central to this effort a hired gun tasked with stopping Trump at all costs, even if it means trampling constitutional rights in the process.

From subpoenaing lawmakers to leaking indictments before elections, Smith’s conduct has left a trail of bias and abuse that Republicans are now working to expose. This isn’t just about Donald Trump it’s about preserving the rule of law for all Americans.

The hearing ended with Democrats suggesting Smith return for further testimony, but the damage is already done. Americans have seen behind the curtain and what they saw wasn’t justice, it was a political hit job.
