Iranian-Backed Terrorists Attack U.S. Navy Ships in Act of War

Senator Calls for Decisive Response as Houthi Forces Target American Warships.

In a blatant act of aggression, Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists in Yemen launched a massive assault on U.S. Navy ships, firing dozens of missiles and drones at American forces in the Red Sea. The attack followed closely on the heels of Israel's successful airstrike that eliminated Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

Fox News defense correspondent Lucas Tomlinson reported that the U.S. Navy warships intercepted nearly two dozen projectiles while transiting the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a critical passage at the southern end of the Red Sea. Among the targeted vessels were the guided-missile destroyers USS Stockdale and USS Spruance, along with the littoral combat ship USS Indianapolis. Fortunately, no U.S. sailors were harmed, and none of the missiles or drones hit their targets.

The Houthis, who have increasingly targeted U.S. forces over the past year, escalated their attacks after the U.S. publicly backed Israel in its conflict with Hamas following the deadly October 7 terrorist attack. This marks yet another alarming escalation as Iran continues to use its proxy militias to destabilize the region and challenge U.S. interests.

Senator Roger Wicker (R-MI) condemned the assault, labeling it an unprovoked act of war by Iran. "Today’s Iranian-backed terrorist attack against American Navy ships is nothing less than an act of war," Wicker stated. He went on to criticize the Biden-Harris administration for its failed attempts at diplomacy in the region. “The administration’s months-long effort to ‘play defense’ in the Red Sea has completely failed. It is time to act decisively to punish the Houthis and let the world see the consequences of attacking the United States.”

With tensions escalating, the U.S. Navy remains on high alert as more aggressive actions from Iran's proxy forces could follow. This latest attack underscores the growing threat posed by Iranian-backed groups throughout the Middle East and the pressing need for a decisive U.S. response.
