Illegal Immigrants Sue Trump Administration Over $1.8 Million Fines
Lawsuit targets daily penalties for defying deportation orders as Trump doubles down on immigration enforcement.

Illegal immigrants hit with daily fines of nearly $1,000 totaling up to $1.8 million per person are now suing the Trump administration in a desperate bid to overturn one of the strongest immigration enforcement measures in recent memory.
The lawsuit, filed Thursday in Massachusetts, seeks class-action status for tens of thousands of illegal immigrants who racked up fines for refusing to leave the country despite being under legal orders to do so. According to the complaint, more than 21,500 individuals have been issued massive penalties, amounting to over $6 billion in total fines.
These civil penalties were introduced under President Donald Trump’s first term and reinstated immediately after his return to office, as part of a broader effort to enforce long-ignored deportation laws.
One plaintiff, identified only as “Nancy M.,” is a Florida resident who remained in the U.S. illegally for years under an “order of supervision.” Despite annual check-ins with immigration officials, she received a fine this year totaling $1.8 million calculated from a $998 daily penalty over five years.
Her attorneys claim the fines are “ruinous,” “unconstitutional,” and “grossly disproportionate.” In other words, they’re demanding amnesty through the courts and expect law-abiding Americans to subsidize the cost.
But the Trump administration isn’t backing down.
“The plaintiffs in this case are here illegally and are suing so they can remain in the country illegally without any consequence or penalty contrary to decades-old federal law,” said DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin.
This comes after the Department of Homeland Security, now under the leadership of Secretary Kristi Noem, announced in February that illegal immigrants who defy deportation orders will face “significant financial penalty.”
“The Trump administration will enforce all our immigration laws we will not pick and choose,” McLaughlin said. “President Trump and Secretary Noem have a clear message for those in our country illegally leave now.”
The reality is this: these aren’t law-abiding immigrants caught in red tape they’re individuals who received legal orders to leave the country and chose to ignore them. Now they’re crying foul because Trump is holding them accountable.
While leftist legal aid groups like The Legal Aid Society argue that these immigrants are “pursuing legal relief,” that doesn’t negate their unlawful presence or the consequences tied to it. Pursuing legal status after violating immigration law doesn’t erase the violation.
This lawsuit isn’t about compassion it’s about control. It’s about using activist judges and sympathetic media coverage to dismantle enforcement, gut deterrence, and keep the border wide open through legal loopholes.
President Trump’s use of daily financial penalties is a powerful tool to incentivize self-deportation, recover taxpayer losses, and reaffirm that U.S. immigration law means something again. Without consequences, there is no sovereignty only chaos.
The American people have spoken: they want borders, they want law, and they want enforcement. If you come here illegally, ignore a removal order, and stay for years expect to pay the price.
