IDF Takes Down Top Hamas Commander Responsible for October 7 Massacre

Mahmoud Hamdan, key figure in the brutal October 7 attack, eliminated in joint IDF operation.

In a significant blow to Hamas, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have eliminated Mahmoud Hamdan, a top commander involved in the planning of the horrific October 7 massacre that left more than 1,200 Israelis dead. Hamdan, the commander of the ‘Tel Sultan’ battalion in Rafah, was killed in a joint operation by the IDF and Israel’s security agency, Shin Bet.

The IDF announced on social media, stating, “In a joint operation by the IDF and Shin Bet forces, the fighters of the 401st Brigade identified a number of terrorist squads using drones, the forces directed Air Force aircraft that eliminated the terrorists.” Alongside Hamdan, three other company commanders from the Tel Sultan battalion were also killed.

Mahmoud Hamdan played a pivotal role in orchestrating the October 7 attack, one of the deadliest assaults on Israeli civilians in decades. The IDF confirmed his role in a series of terrorist activities, noting, “Hamdan took a significant part in planning the raid into Israel on October 7 and promoted the preparation plan of the Rafah Brigade.” Additionally, Hamdan led numerous other terror plots against Israel, making him a high-value target in the ongoing war to dismantle Hamas.

The operation also wiped out much of the command structure of the Tel Sultan battalion, weakening Hamas’ ability to mount further attacks from Rafah. “The chain of command of the Tel Sultan battalion was eliminated,” the IDF stated, along with dozens of other terrorists from the battalion.

This successful operation comes as the Biden administration continues to pressure Israel to avoid military action in Rafah, the final stronghold of Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Despite Washington’s concerns, Israel has pushed forward with targeted operations, determined to dismantle Hamas and prevent further atrocities.

Vice President Kamala Harris reiterated the administration’s opposition to Israel’s military actions in Rafah earlier this year. In a March interview, she stated that both she and President Biden believed a military operation in Rafah would be a “huge mistake.” Harris claimed that due to the concentration of civilians in the area, a large-scale operation would risk unnecessary casualties. However, Israel remains resolute in its mission to eliminate Hamas operatives and restore security for its people.

The October 7 massacre sent shockwaves across the globe, with its sheer brutality captured in chilling detail by British author Chris Ryan, who described watching Hamas terrorists slaughter innocent civilians, including children. Ryan shared a particularly haunting account of two young girls murdered by Hamas terrorists as they attempted to protect their puppies, showcasing the unimaginable cruelty of the attack.

The IDF’s latest operation is a crucial step in bringing justice to the victims of October 7 and crippling Hamas’ ability to launch future assaults. Mahmoud Hamdan’s death marks another victory for Israel in its ongoing war against terrorism, despite the political pressure to pull back from military engagements in Gaza’s most volatile regions.
