D.C. Suspends Hunter Biden's Law License Following Gun Trial Conviction
D.C. Court of Appeals Acts Quickly Amid Felony Charges.
Hunter Biden’s law license in Washington, D.C., has been suspended following his recent conviction on multiple felony charges in a federal gun trial. The D.C. Court of Appeals issued an order on Tuesday, stating that Biden is “suspended immediately from the practice of law… pending resolution of this matter.” The suspension comes after Biden was found guilty on three serious felony counts earlier this month in Delaware.
Chief Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby, who signed the suspension order, directed the Board on Professional Responsibility to initiate a formal proceeding to assess the nature of the offense and determine if it involves moral turpitude, a significant violation under D.C. Bar rules.
Felony Conviction: Biden was convicted of lying on paperwork for a revolver and owning the firearm while being a drug addict in 2018.
Immediate Suspension: The D.C. Court of Appeals acted swiftly to suspend Biden’s law license pending further investigation.
Professional History: Biden has been a member of the D.C. Bar since 2007, though his recent professional endeavors include a 2021 memoir and an art career.
The disciplinary office in D.C. recommended the suspension shortly after Biden’s conviction. Additionally, court records reveal that Biden’s law license in Connecticut is also under administrative suspension due to a failure to pay fees.
The gun trial conviction could result in Biden facing up to 25 years in prison and fines as high as $750,000. However, as a first-time offender, it is expected that he may receive a lighter sentence. Despite this, Biden’s legal team has already requested a new trial, arguing procedural issues with the federal appeals court’s handling of his case.
President Joe Biden has publicly stated that he will not pardon his son or commute any potential sentence he may receive, emphasizing that Hunter must face the legal consequences of his actions.
In addition to the gun charges, Hunter Biden is also preparing for a tax trial in California set to begin in September. These legal troubles, managed by special counsel David Weiss, have significantly impacted the Biden family amid the President’s campaign for re-election.
