Impeachment Proceedings Launched Against VP Harris by House Republican as She Campaigns

Rep. Anthony Ogles Introduces Articles of Impeachment Amid Harris's Presidential Campaign.

Rep. Anthony Ogles (R-TN) introduced articles of impeachment against Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday. This move comes shortly after President Joe Biden ended his re-election campaign and endorsed Harris as his successor.

The resolution, shared by POLITICO’s Olivia Beavers on X, accuses Harris of "high crimes and misdemeanors" related to her role as "border czar" and for allegedly misleading the public about Biden’s health. Ogles told The Daily Caller, "Time and again, Kamala Harris has refused to uphold her oath to the U.S. Constitution, and she must be impeached. Her breathtaking incompetence as Border Czar has allowed a crisis of drugs, rape, and murder to flood the streets of America."

Ogles also charged Harris with breaching public trust by not invoking the 25th Amendment despite claims that Biden was unfit to serve. He emphasized the urgency of action against Harris.

President Biden, 81, withdrew from the race after a weak debate performance that raised concerns about his mental acuity and electability. He quickly endorsed Harris for the Democratic Party’s nomination. Harris has secured enough delegates to win the nomination, but the process remains open to potential challengers. Her campaign reported a substantial fundraising success in the first 24 hours, and she is currently seeking a running mate.

Ogles, endorsed by former President Donald Trump, is facing a primary in Tennessee’s 5th Congressional District on August 1. He previously introduced articles of impeachment against both Biden and Harris last year.

The introduction of the impeachment resolution is viewed by some as a strategic shift by the GOP to target Harris now that she is the presumptive Democratic nominee. Punchbowl News reporter Melanie Zanona described it as an "entirely symbolic" effort to pivot attacks from Biden to Harris.

Additionally, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), the third-ranking House Republican, unveiled a resolution earlier on Tuesday to condemn Harris for her failure to address the migrant crisis as the administration’s "border czar."
