Star-Studded Hollywood Event Raises Tens of Millions for Harris
Stars Turn Out for Harris Fundraiser as Critics Slam the VP for Ignoring Crisis in the South.
Vice President Kamala Harris attended a star-studded fundraiser in Los Angeles over the weekend, where Hollywood’s elite helped raise over $28 million for her campaign as she replaces President Joe Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket. Big names like Stevie Wonder, Lily Tomlin, and Keegan-Michael Key were among the 1,500 attendees who paid between $500 and nearly $1 million for a seat at the event, which was held at the J.W. Marriott.
Despite the glitz and glamour, Harris’ appearance at the high-profile event sparked outrage, as parts of the southeastern U.S. remain devastated by Hurricane Helene. With over 120 deaths reported including 30 fatalities in North Carolina’s Asheville area many criticized Harris for attending a celebrity-filled event while thousands of Americans are still suffering in the wake of the disaster.
Speaking at the fundraiser, Harris told the crowd of Hollywood insiders, “Oh, it’s good to be home,” even though she grew up in Oakland. She praised the attendees, saying many had been with her “every step of the way.” The event drew a long list of celebrities, including Jessica Alba, Demi Lovato, and Alanis Morissette, along with entertainment executives like Jeffery Katzenberg and Universal’s Donna Langley.
However, not everyone was impressed. On Monday, Megyn Kelly blasted Harris on her podcast, pointing out that the Vice President was schmoozing with stars while “the devastation was ongoing” from the hurricane. Kelly said, “How dare she!” and called out Harris for focusing on fundraising while families in the South were dealing with catastrophic losses.
Social media echoed the criticism, with many expressing frustration at Hollywood’s disconnect from the real-world issues facing average Americans:
“SO the issues really do not matter to Hollywood,” one user wrote. “Rich people problems are not even close to the rest of the world.”
Another added, “Dear Hollywood celebrities, nobody cares about who you are endorsing. You live in a fantasy land. Your job is to entertain us. Stay in your lane.”
As Harris cashes in on Hollywood’s deep pockets, millions of Americans are left wondering where her priorities lie. With ongoing disaster relief efforts in the South, many are questioning why the Vice President chose to spend her weekend with Hollywood elites rather than focusing on the needs of those devastated by Hurricane Helene.
