Hegseth Launches Operation Southern Spear to Crush Cartels and Counter Venezuela

In a bold escalation of the war against narco-terrorism, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced Operation Southern Spear on Thursday, a new military initiative targeting drug cartels operating in the Caribbean and Pacific. The operation, directly ordered by President Donald Trump, comes amid rising tensions with Venezuela and mounting backlash from globalist European allies uncomfortable with America’s growing military dominance in its own backyard.

“The Western Hemisphere is America’s neighborhood and we will protect it,” Hegseth declared in a post on X. “Led by Joint Task Force Southern Spear and U.S. Southern Command, this mission defends our homeland, removes narco-terrorists from our hemisphere, and secures our people from the drugs that are killing them.”

This mission, whether a rebranding or an expansion of existing efforts, underscores Trump’s commitment to national security and border integrity a far cry from the chaotic and weak foreign policy Americans endured under Biden.

The operation ramps up as:

• Venezuela launched military exercises involving 200,000 troops, claiming the U.S. poses an “imperialist threat.”

• The USS Gerald R. Ford, America’s most advanced aircraft carrier, was deployed to the Caribbean Sea, signaling no-nonsense deterrence to Venezuela and its allies.

• U.S. forces have already destroyed approximately 20 cartel vessels and submarines, crippling smuggling routes and striking at the heart of the fentanyl and cocaine crisis.

Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro is clearly rattled. The sudden “massive mobilization” of his military is a desperate move to project strength. But while Maduro plays war games, Trump is actually winning one cutting off the chemical lifelines that fuel America's drug epidemic.

Not surprisingly, the usual suspects in Europe are wringing their hands, accusing the United States of violating “international law” by taking out drug runners. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had a blunt message for them: “They want U.S. missiles to defend Europe, but take issue with us defending our own hemisphere?”

He’s right. This isn’t Europe’s war. It’s ours and finally, under President Trump, we’re fighting it like we mean it.

For decades, the cartels have operated with impunity, flooding American streets with poison while Washington politicians made excuses or looked the other way. Those days are over. Operation Southern Spear is a declaration that the United States will control its borders, protect its citizens, and eliminate any threat that dares challenge our sovereignty whether it wears a drug lord’s chains or a dictator’s uniform.
