Hegseth Shuts Down Obama-Biden Program Giving Chinese Coders DOD Access
Decade-old “Digital Escorts” scheme allowed foreign nationals into U.S. defense cloud systems.

In a bombshell move that highlights the national security negligence of the Obama-Biden years, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has terminated a dangerous decade-long program that gave Chinese nationals access to Department of Defense cloud systems. The so-called “Digital Escorts” initiative, quietly embedded in the DOD’s tech infrastructure, dates back nearly ten years and was implemented under the radar during the Obama administration.
In a statement that has stunned defense and intelligence watchers, Hegseth explained the recklessness of the program and made clear that it’s officially shut down.
“For nearly a decade, Microsoft has used Chinese coders, remotely supervised by U.S. contractors, to support sensitive DOD cloud systems,” Hegseth said. “The program was designed to comply with contracting rules but it exposed the department to unacceptable risk.”
Unacceptable risk is putting it mildly. Hegseth’s decision comes after a top-down review of the Digital Escorts program, which determined that any supposed benefits paled in comparison to the threat posed by allowing foreign nationals from a geopolitical adversary to operate within our military’s digital ecosystem.
Here’s what Hegseth has done to protect U.S. national security:
Terminated the use of Chinese coders in all Department of Defense cloud operations effective immediately.
Issued a formal letter of concern to Microsoft, the primary contractor, for their failure to prevent this dangerous arrangement.
Ordered a third-party audit of all code contributions from the Digital Escorts program, with a specific focus on malicious backdoors or vulnerabilities potentially introduced by Chinese developers.
Launched an investigation into all Chinese nationals involved, to determine if classified information was compromised or if foreign code was embedded within sensitive systems.
“This never should have happened in the first place,” Hegseth stated. “If you’re thinking ‘America First’ and common sense, this doesn’t pass either of those tests.”
He’s right. And it’s nothing short of jaw-dropping that under Barack Obama and Joe Biden, our own Department of Defense outsourced core digital operations to foreign coders from China a country currently engaged in rampant cyberwarfare and espionage against the U.S. This wasn’t just careless. It was borderline sabotage disguised as bureaucratic compliance.
Hegseth’s leadership marks a seismic shift from the globalist mindset that dominated D.C. for decades. It also sends a clear message to woke tech companies like Microsoft: you do not get to profit off the U.S. military while giving adversaries a backdoor into our digital defenses.
This is what actual leadership looks like prioritizing national security over corporate convenience and foreign appeasement.
