Pete Hegseth Shuts Down L.A. Mayor’s False ‘Victory’ Over Troop Withdrawal

Mayor Bass calls troop redeployment a “retreat,” but Trump’s defense team makes it clear: the mission succeeded despite her failures.

Democratic Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass tried to take a victory lap this week and faceplanted.

When news broke that over 1,000 U.S. troops were being redeployed out of Los Angeles, Bass rushed to declare it a political win for her office, posting triumphantly that the service members were “retreating” under political pressure. But Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth wasn’t about to let that fantasy fly.

“You’re welcome Mayor,” Hegseth posted. “These brave troops are redeploying because their mission was so successful. You should be thanking them for saving your city from mobs & chaos. We will continue to support law enforcement even when you won’t.”

Bass may have hoped to spin the departure as a show of force from city leaders, but the facts tell a very different story.

These troops were deployed under the Trump administration to help stabilize a city spiraling into violent chaos. ICE facilities were under attack, federal personnel were being targeted, and local officials like Bass were either powerless or unwilling to act. That’s when the federal government stepped in and took control.

And it worked.

  • Over 1,350 troops were deployed to Los Angeles to defend property and protect federal employees.

  • Since then, riots have ceased, and federal infrastructure remains intact.

  • With order restored, the majority of troops are now being reassigned not because of political pressure, but because the mission is complete.

But Mayor Bass still tried to claim credit, tweeting, “Another win for Los Angeles tonight.” Social media users weren’t buying it.

Actor Dean Cain chimed in “What an actual idiot… They are not ‘retreating.’ They are redeploying, because they did their job, you Marxist.”

Other responses were even more blunt:

  • “You’re like a spectator in the stands, watching a team win, and then cheering, ‘I DID IT!!’”

  • “The Trump administration moved in, quelled the chaos, and did the job you’re incapable of doing.”

Even now, 250 troops remain in the city, and according to Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell, they’ll stay “as long as necessary” to ensure continued security.

Mayor Bass had nothing to do with the restored peace in L.A. In fact, she and her allies spent more time undermining law enforcement than supporting it. Trump’s administration made the tough call, sent in reinforcements, and got the job done.

Now that the city is safe again, Bass is trying to rewrite history but Americans know better.

Hegseth said it best: “You should be thanking them.” But Democrats like Bass would rather posture than lead. Fortunately, Trump and his team are still doing the real work.
