GOP Lawmakers Push Trump to Solidify Tax Cuts Permanently
Republican lawmakers urge bold action to prevent tax hikes and secure economic growth.

A group of Republican senators is urging President Donald Trump to take bold action and make the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) permanent, warning that failure to do so would result in tax hikes for millions of Americans and damage the economy.
In an open letter, nine GOP senators from the Senate Finance Committee reaffirmed their commitment to blocking the expiration of Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, which lowered rates for individuals and businesses, doubled the standard deduction, and spurred massive economic growth.
The TCJA led to higher wages, increased productivity, and record corporate investment.
If Congress fails to act, taxes will increase for Americans in every income bracket.
Nearly six million jobs could be at risk due to tax hikes on businesses.
“You were elected with a mandate to do big things,” the letter declared. “One of those big things is to provide lasting tax relief for small businesses and families across the country.”
62% of taxpayers would see their tax bills increase.
Corporate tax rates would climb from 21% back to 35%, hurting U.S. competitiveness.
Families and small businesses would face uncertainty, discouraging investment and hiring.
Faith Jablokow of the Taxpayers Protection Alliance emphasized that the TCJA’s 4.7% boost in corporate investment was a direct result of lowering tax burdens. Reversing these gains would hand an advantage to global competitors like China while stifling American economic momentum.
The letter, signed by Senate Majority Leader John Thune (SD), Steve Daines (MT), Mike Crapo (ID), John Barrasso (WY), James Lankford (OK), Ron Johnson (WI), Roger Marshall (KS), Marsha Blackburn (TN), and Thom Tillis (NC), makes it clear that Republicans will not settle for temporary tax relief.
“A temporary extension of these pro-growth and pro-family policies is a missed opportunity,” the senators warned. “Congressional Republicans have a historic opportunity to enact this lasting tax relief. Failing to act boldly does a disservice to the American people who entrusted us to deliver in November.”
With Trump leading the charge, Republicans must take decisive action to protect the American taxpayer and ensure economic prosperity for years to come.
