Gina Raimondo Calls for Trump to Be ‘Extinguished for Good’ After Assassination Plots

Commerce Secretary’s inflammatory remarks spark outrage, with calls for resignation over dangerous rhetoric.

Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo ignited a firestorm of controversy after suggesting that former President Donald Trump should be “extinguished for good” during an appearance on MSNBC’s "Morning Joe." Her remarks came just weeks after Trump survived multiple assassination attempts, drawing sharp criticism from Republican lawmakers and Trump supporters alike.

In the interview, Raimondo criticized Trump's recent statements, asserting that “whatever he says is the opposite of reality.” Then she dropped the bombshell: “How did we get here? Let’s extinguish him for good.” The incendiary comment quickly went viral, with many interpreting it as dangerously irresponsible rhetoric in light of the threats against Trump’s life.

Trump has faced several assassination attempts in recent months. A 20-year-old man shot at him during a rally in Pennsylvania in July, and federal authorities recently thwarted another plot involving a Pakistani man with ties to Iran. Moreover, a Democrat donor was arrested after trying to assassinate Trump at his golf course with a rifle. Raimondo’s remarks, made in such a charged environment, have only added fuel to the fire.

Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) wasted no time in demanding Raimondo’s resignation, calling her comments “beyond dangerous.” He warned that her language could inspire further violence against Trump, noting, “If she isn’t fired immediately, it’ll tell you everything you need to know about the people running our country.” Mast’s sentiment was echoed by many Republicans, including senior Trump adviser Stephen Miller, who said Raimondo’s comments were “disqualifying” and called for Vice President Kamala Harris to demand her resignation.

Political commentator Dave Rubin suggested that Raimondo’s language was no accident, implying that it was a deliberate attempt to fan the flames of political tension. “This language is absolutely coordinated and planned,” Rubin said. His remarks raise concerns that high-ranking officials like Raimondo are contributing to the country’s growing political violence through their divisive rhetoric.

Kelly Loeffler, a former U.S. Senator, also called for Raimondo’s resignation, demanding that both President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris condemn the remarks. "We cannot normalize this. If Joe & Kamala want to lower the temperature in this country and prevent a THIRD attempt on President Trump’s life they need to condemn this language now," Loeffler stated.

Columnist Tammy Bruce pointed out that Raimondo’s comments might be more than just a slip of the tongue. “They want him dead. Not acting against threats or under-funding his protection is deadly passive aggressiveness,” Bruce said, accusing the Biden administration of turning a blind eye to the escalating threats against Trump’s life.

As the backlash continues, Raimondo’s comments highlight the deepening divisions in American politics. With multiple assassination attempts against Trump already in the headlines, irresponsible rhetoric like this only serves to escalate tensions and put lives at risk. Whether the Biden administration will take action or remain silent remains to be seen.
