Germany Refuses Palestinian Statehood Recognition at UN
Merz rejects push from Canada, France, and UK as pressure mounts, citing terror ties and failed governance.

Germany has taken a bold stand. Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced Tuesday that his government will not support the push to recognize a Palestinian state at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in September. Speaking alongside Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney who has already pledged support for the recognition Merz was unequivocal: “We don’t see the requirements met.”
Germany’s stance echoes growing skepticism around the so-called ‘two-state solution,’ particularly in light of the October 7 Hamas terrorist massacre and the utter collapse of governance in Gaza. Merz’s clarity marks a sharp divergence from leftist governments like Canada, France, and the UK, who are barreling toward recognition of a terrorist-fueled regime under the guise of “peace.”
Let’s be clear about what’s really going on:
There is no functioning Palestinian government. The Palestinian Authority, created under the Oslo Accords, was never meant to be permanent and it’s proven itself utterly incapable of governing. Its infamous "pay-to-slay" program has funneled millions of dollars into rewarding terrorism against innocent Israeli civilians.
There is no defined territory. Palestinian leadership claims all of Judea and Samaria, East Jerusalem, and even the Temple Mount Israel’s holiest site. Their demands leave no room for Israel’s existence, let alone peace.
There is no commitment to peace. The events of October 7, when Hamas invaded Israel in one of the most brutal attacks in recent memory, shattered any illusion that coexistence is possible under current circumstances.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán didn’t mince words either, calling the two-state concept an “illusion” that actually impedes real-world solutions. In an interview, Orbán warned of demographic shifts that could push Western governments into adopting pro-Islamic and anti-Israel policies, stating bluntly: “The Jews will have to pack up and leave.”
That’s not fearmongering that’s a reality already visible in places like France, where antisemitic incidents are surging. According to the French Interior Ministry, antisemitic acts in the country rose threefold in 2023, with over 1,200 recorded incidents. Meanwhile, in the UK, hate crimes against Jews spiked by more than 500% after October 7.
Yet left-wing leaders like Emmanuel Macron and Keir Starmer continue to back the fantasy of Palestinian statehood, despite all evidence pointing to the devastating consequences of legitimizing terrorist-run territories.
As Caroline Glick, former Israeli International Affairs Advisor, put it:
“After October 7, support for a two-state solution is nothing less than support for the annihilation of the Jewish state, the genocide of the Jews of Israel and the subjugation of Diaspora Jewry.”
Germany’s refusal to be complicit in that delusion deserves praise and replication. Western nations have a choice: Stand with Israel and civilization, or embolden the forces committed to its destruction.
