Newsom Criticized for Remarks on Prayer After Catholic School Tragedy

As families grieve, Democrats double down on anti-faith rhetoric ignoring the shooter’s hate-fueled, anti-Christian motive.

As America reels from the heartbreaking mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis where two children were gunned down during morning Mass California Governor Gavin Newsom chose to sneer at prayer rather than mourn with the faithful.

Reacting to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s defense of prayer as a source of comfort for millions of Americans, Newsom posted on X. “These children were literally praying as they got shot at.”

Let that sink in.

Rather than condemn the transgender-identifying shooter, Robin Westman, or acknowledge the anti-Christian hate that motivated the massacre, Newsom mocked the idea of turning to God at a time when Catholic families are burying their children.

It’s a now-familiar refrain from the Left. MSNBC host Jen Psaki kicked it off earlier in the week, saying. “Prayer is not freaking enough. … Enough with the thoughts and prayers.”

Leavitt responded in kind, calling out Psaki’s “incredibly insensitive and disrespectful” remarks, adding. “It’s utterly disrespectful to deride the power of prayer in this country.”

But Newsom wasn’t alone. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey piled on as well, saying. “Don’t just say this is about thoughts and prayers… these kids were literally praying.”

What these Democrats fail to mention is that the shooter wasn’t just some random gunman. According to FBI Director Kash Patel, Robin Westman a biological male who identified as transgender was driven by an explicit hate-filled ideology targeting Christians, Jews, and even President Donald Trump.

Among Westman’s writings and disturbing videos:

  • “Where is your God?”

  • “6 million wasn’t enough” (a reference to the Holocaust)

  • Calls for violence against Catholics and conservatives

Yet Democrats are more outraged at Americans praying than at the ideology behind this attack.

Senator JD Vance put it plainly. “Literally no one thinks prayer is a substitute for action… We pray because our hearts are broken and we believe that God is listening.”

And that’s exactly what offends people like Newsom, Psaki, and Frey. To them, faith is a distraction something to mock, marginalize, and eventually erase from public life.

Here’s the truth they don’t want to admit:

  • The shooter targeted Christians while they worshipped.

  • The attack was carried out by a trans-identifying biological male, filled with hatred for religion.

  • And rather than unify the country in grief, the Left has used this tragedy to mock believers and double down on their war against faith.

What happened in Minneapolis was not just a tragedy it was a hate crime against people of faith. And Democrats' biggest concern? That someone might turn to God instead of government.
