Florida Becomes First State to End All Vaccine Mandates

DeSantis and Surgeon General Ladapo lead bold medical freedom push, defying federal overreach and restoring parental rights.

In a historic and defiant move against years of government overreach, Florida has become the first state in the nation to end all vaccine mandates including requirements for children to attend school.

Standing shoulder to shoulder with Governor Ron DeSantis, Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo made the bombshell announcement on Wednesday, vowing to eliminate every last vaccine mandate from Florida law.

“Who am I to tell you what your child should put in their body?” Ladapo asked a cheering crowd. “Your body is a gift from God. What you put into your body is because of your relationship with your body and your God. I don’t have that right. Government does not have that right.”

This is medical freedom in action not just lip service, but a total reversal of the heavy-handed policies that defined the COVID-19 era. Florida is now the only state in the union moving to fully eliminate school vaccine mandates, shattering a long-standing nationwide standard.

What This Means for Florida Families:

  • No more forced vaccinations as a condition for school attendance.

  • No more government intrusion into private medical decisions.

  • No more punishment for parents who dare to question the one-size-fits-all approach to medicine.

Dr. Ladapo, never one to mince words, went so far as to call vaccine mandates a form of “slavery,” saying they “drip with disdain” and reflect an elitist mindset that strips Americans of autonomy and dignity.

This isn’t just about COVID. It’s about every vaccine mandate embedded in state law, many of which have been in place for decades with little room for personal or religious conscience. In blue states like New York and California, families have been forced to vaccinate their children or leave, with even longstanding medical exemptions revoked under the guise of “public health.”

“Many, many families have had to move out of town, get vaccinated against medical advice some children have been severely harmed by that,” New York attorney Sujata Gibson said in a recent interview.

Florida is taking the exact opposite approach one grounded in choice, not coercion.

This isn’t the first time DeSantis and Ladapo have taken a stand. In 2023, Florida passed a sweeping medical freedom package banning mask and vaccine mandates, while protecting healthcare workers from being forced to violate their conscience. That was just the beginning.

Now, with the federal government backpedaling the FDA has quietly ended its emergency use authorization for COVID vaccines Florida is leading the nation out of the dark days of forced compliance.

“We saw the heavy-handed government with the vaccine mandates… no longer is that possible given the landscape that we’ve created,” said FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary.

And that’s due in no small part to Florida leading the charge.

The implementation details are still unfolding, but Dr. Ladapo emphasized that state lawmakers will have to act to fully codify the new policy. With Republicans controlling both chambers of the Florida legislature, there’s little doubt the effort will succeed.

Make no mistake this move will send shockwaves across the country. It’s a direct challenge to the authoritarianism that exploded during the pandemic, and it’s a blueprint for other red states to follow.

While Washington pushes for centralized control, Florida is restoring individual rights, medical privacy, and parental authority.

This is what leadership looks like.
