Fetterman Supports Counting Invalid Ballots in Pennsylvania

Democrats in Pennsylvania flout Supreme Court ruling, undermining election integrity.

Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) is under fire for defending the actions of Pennsylvania election officials who openly ignored a ruling from the state’s Supreme Court by counting invalid ballots in a razor-thin Senate race. The controversy adds to growing concerns about Democratic officials’ disregard for election laws and the implications for democratic accountability.

During an interview on CNN’s State of the Union, Fetterman dismissed concerns over the roughly 115 provisional ballots in Bucks County that were counted despite lacking legally required signatures. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court previously ruled such ballots invalid, yet Democratic officials in the county proceeded anyway.

Ignoring the Rule of Law

Jake Tapper, CNN’s host, pressed Fetterman on the Democrats’ defiance of the court ruling, noting even The Washington Post Editorial Board criticized the move as “corrosive to democracy.” The editorial emphasized that legal requirements are for courts to interpret, not county officials.

A Democratic Bucks County official openly justified breaking the law, saying, “I think we all know that precedent by a court doesn’t matter anymore in this country and people violate laws any time they want. So, for me, if I violate this law, it’s because I want a court to pay attention to it.”

This admission raises alarming questions about the willingness of Democratic officials to selectively apply the law when it suits their interests.

Fetterman’s Shrug at Accountability

When asked about Democrats ignoring the court order, Fetterman downplayed the issue. “It refers to about 115 ballots, and that’s not going to have an impact on this race,” he claimed. But moments later, he contradicted himself, acknowledging that the race remains “very, very close.”

His defense amounted to an argument that Republicans would have acted similarly, implying that the ends justify the means. However, this line of reasoning does little to address the larger issue of legal integrity in elections.

Undermining Trust in Elections

By counting invalid ballots, Pennsylvania Democrats are undermining public trust in the electoral process. In an era where election integrity is already under scrutiny, such actions send a dangerous message: rules and court rulings are optional if they conflict with partisan objectives.

Key points to consider:

  • The Pennsylvania Supreme Court explicitly ruled that unsigned ballots are invalid.

  • Bucks County officials defied this ruling, citing their personal disagreement with the law.

  • Even left-leaning publications like The Washington Post have denounced this behavior as damaging to democracy.

A Partisan Power Grab

This incident is yet another example of Democratic officials bending rules in their favor, all while dismissing concerns as trivial or partisan. It is an affront to the principles of transparency and fairness that should govern elections.

The people of Pennsylvania deserve better than officials who flout the law for political gain. Americans must demand accountability to protect the integrity of their votes.
