FBI Joins Effort to Find ‘Runaway’ Democrats, According to GOP Senator
Trump-backed crackdown escalates as Cornyn confirms federal help tracking absent lawmakers.

The Biden-era playbook of fleeing legislatures to block democracy is finally running into the wall of accountability and it has the FBI’s full attention.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) announced Thursday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation will assist Texas law enforcement in locating and arresting the Democratic lawmakers who abandoned their posts to block a GOP-led redistricting plan. The move follows Cornyn’s formal request to FBI Director Kash Patel, who was appointed by President Donald Trump.
“I am proud to announce that Director Kash Patel has approved my request for the FBI to assist state and local law enforcement in locating runaway Texas House Democrats,” Cornyn said in a statement. “We cannot allow these rogue legislators to avoid their constitutional responsibilities.”
The Democrats more than 50 of them fled Texas over the weekend, deliberately denying the state legislature the quorum needed to finalize new congressional maps that are projected to give Republicans up to five new seats in the U.S. House.
Rather than engage in the legislative process they were elected to serve in, these AWOL Democrats are hiding out in Illinois, attempting to kill the clock on a special session that is constitutionally mandated.
Key facts:
The FBI is now aiding in tracking down and, if necessary, helping state police arrest these lawmakers.
The Texas Supreme Court is already reviewing a lawsuit filed by Gov. Greg Abbott to strip House Caucus Chair Gene Wu of his seat for orchestrating the stunt.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has launched an investigation into a Democrat-aligned group led by Beto O’Rourke, which is funding the fugitives and potentially violating campaign finance laws.
Make no mistake, this is not about “dissent” it’s about dereliction.
Texas Democrats are using the same tired excuse of “fighting gerrymandering,” but the real motive is power preservation. They know they can’t win the debate on the House floor, so they’re skipping town and shredding their oaths of office in the process.
“If representatives are free not to show up whenever they choose,” Abbott warned, “then Texans simply do not have a representative government.”
While Democrats like Colin Allred claim this is all about "silencing dissent," they’re ignoring the elephant in the room: they are elected to legislate, not to obstruct. Allred, a failed Senate candidate now trying again in 2026, called the FBI’s involvement "weaponizing law enforcement" a laughable take considering the Left has spent years using federal agencies to target political enemies.
Meanwhile, Trump is driving this fight from the top, pushing Republican-led states to take back control of their congressional maps after years of Democrat-favoring court interventions and census manipulation.
This is just the latest win for the America First movement, and it shows that Republicans are finally playing offense.
Democrats can run, but they can’t hide forever not from Texas voters, not from the law, and certainly not from the Constitution.
