FBI Launches 24/7 Operation After Brown University Shooting, Promises Swift Justice

The FBI has launched a full-scale, around-the-clock operation in response to the deadly Brown University shooting, with Director Kash Patel vowing an “all-out 24/7 campaign” to bring those responsible to justice.

In a detailed statement posted on X Sunday afternoon, Patel laid out the Bureau’s multi-agency strategy, which includes lead tracking, geolocation analysis, victim support, and forensic reconstruction all deployed within hours of the shooting that rocked the Ivy League campus in Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday.

“Thanks to the men and women of the FBI and our partners for their continued teamwork,” Patel said. “This FBI will continue an all-out 24/7 campaign until justice is fully served.”

Just hours after the attack, which occurred during an exam prep session and left multiple casualties, the FBI announced it had detained a “person of interest” in a Coventry, RI hotel, based on a tip from the Providence Police Department.

The arrest came as a result of rapid coordination between federal and local agencies, including:

• FBI Boston’s Safe Streets Task Force

• U.S. Marshals Service

• Coventry Police Department

• Providence PD

Patel credited the arrest to high-tech geolocation tools provided by the FBI’s Cellular Analysis Survey Team (CAST), which was activated as part of the investigation.

“We established a command post to intake, develop and analyze leads, and run them to ground,” Patel explained.
“CAST provided critical geolocation capabilities that helped us locate and detain a person of interest.”

As part of the ongoing federal response, the FBI has also:

• Set up a digital media intake portal for public submissions of video and photos

• Deployed forensic teams to reconstruct the crime scene in real-time

• Integrated victim specialists to provide trauma support to students and families

The quick action by federal agents and local law enforcement led Providence Mayor Brett Smiley to lift the “shelter in place” order that had been in effect since Saturday night.

“The people of Providence should breathe a little easier this morning,” Smiley said during a Sunday press conference.

While the full motive remains under investigation, the scope of the response underscores the national seriousness with which the federal government is treating the attack. In a moment where faith in institutions is often tested, the FBI’s immediate mobilization has drawn rare bipartisan praise with Patel leading from the front.

Patel, appointed to head the FBI under the second Trump administration, has built a reputation for decisive crisis management, often calling out bureaucratic complacency and promising results over rhetoric. His approach here is no different.

“Please continue praying for the victims and their families as well as all those at Brown University,” Patel wrote. “Justice will be done.”
