FBI Leader Who Wanted to ‘Dig In’ Against Trump Admin Removed

James Dennehy, head of the FBI’s New York field office, has been forced out after resisting the Trump administration’s efforts to investigate political bias within the bureau.

Dennehy’s exit comes weeks after he sent an email to his staff urging them to stand firm as the Trump administration probed the FBI’s handling of the January 6 investigations. “Today, we find ourselves in the middle of a battle of our own,” he wrote at the time.

Despite his defiant stance, Dennehy was given an ultimatum last Friday: resign or be fired. “I was not given a reason for this decision,” he claimed in his farewell email to staff.

Dennehy had been one of the top FBI officials attempting to shield agents from accountability over the bureau’s controversial political operations. He worked closely with former acting Director Brian Driscoll and former acting Deputy Director Rob Kissane, both of whom are now out of the agency as well.

With Trump ally Kash Patel now leading the FBI and Dan Bongino as his deputy, the administration is taking long-overdue steps to remove political operatives from the bureau and restore the agency’s credibility.

Dennehy also played a key role in the politically motivated investigation into New York City Mayor Eric Adams a case that collapsed after the Department of Justice moved to drop the charges, leading to mass resignations from federal prosecutors.

For years, the FBI has operated as a weaponized agency, targeting conservatives while shielding Democrats. Now, the swamp is finally being drained.
