EU Freezes Retaliation After Trump Pauses Tariffs
Brussels backs down as Trump resets the global trade board and asserts American dominance.

It didn’t take long for Europe to blink. Just 24 hours after President Trump announced a sweeping pause on tariffs for nearly every nation except China, the European Union announced it would halt its retaliatory trade measures against the United States. The move came despite a 26-1 EU vote just days earlier to impose harsh tariffs on over $20 billion worth of American goods including soybeans, tobacco, and even ice cream.
Clearly, when Trump speaks, the world listens.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed the 90-day pause on Thursday, mirroring the timeline Trump gave for countries to negotiate new, fairer trade agreements with the U.S. “We want to give negotiations a chance,” she posted on X, noting that if talks fall apart, the EU’s retaliatory measures will return to the table. For now, though, the counterattacks are shelved.
Let’s break down what this really means:
The EU initially planned tariffs up to 25% on American steel, textiles, and agricultural products.
Trump’s tariff freeze did not include China, which now faces a 125% tariff after imposing an 84% levy on U.S. imports.
The EU is now suggesting a “zero-for-zero” trade agreement something Trump has long advocated but never saw progress on under previous administrations.
Over 75 countries have signaled willingness to negotiate, showing a shift in global trade dynamics under Trump’s tough but fair leadership.
This sudden reversal from the EU isn’t just diplomacy it’s a clear acknowledgment of who holds the cards. Europe knows the U.S. market is irreplaceable, and they’re not willing to risk it. President Trump’s bold decision to separate China from the rest of the world in trade policy has put pressure exactly where it belongs on the Communist regime that’s spent decades taking advantage of Western appeasement.
Contrast that with the Democrats, who for years allowed Brussels and Beijing alike to exploit the American worker. The Biden administration handed over leverage in almost every negotiation it touched. Now, Trump’s return to assertive America-first leadership is flipping the board entirely.
And it’s working. Negotiations are happening. Tariffs are being paused. Nations are reevaluating their alliances. And one thing is becoming increasingly clear: Trump’s economic instincts are once again reshaping the global order.
Don’t expect the corporate media to give him credit. But the results speak for themselves.
