Eric Adams Drops Out as Socialist Mamdani Surges in NYC Mayoral Race

Democrat collapse clears path for far-left candidate as Curtis Sliwa emerges as the last line of defense.

In a stunning development just five weeks before Election Day, New York City Mayor Eric Adams has officially dropped out of the race for re-election opening the door for a 33-year-old democratic socialist, Zohran Mamdani, to potentially seize control of the nation's largest city.

Adams made the announcement Sunday morning in a nearly nine-minute video posted to social media. Visibly defeated, the embattled Democrat claimed that despite “achievements” on crime and housing, he could no longer mount a “serious campaign” due to a lack of fundraising.

Let’s be honest: this wasn’t about campaign funds this was about political reality. Adams was sinking in the polls, trailing both Mamdani and former Governor Andrew Cuomo in funding and support. And while he tiptoed around the reasons for his exit, the writing was on the wall. The far-left has taken over the Democratic Party in New York, and Adams was just in the way.

Zohran Mamdani a proud democratic socialist wasted no time seizing the narrative. He framed Adams’ departure as a “turning point” and took direct shots at both Trump and Cuomo:

“Donald Trump and his billionaire donors might be able to determine Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo’s actions but they will not dictate the results of this election,” Mamdani claimed.

This is the same Mamdani whose radical platform includes:

  • Rent freezes for stabilized tenants guaranteed to discourage development

  • City-owned grocery stores government-run markets in the middle of a supply chain crisis

  • Free public buses without a real plan to fund them

Mamdani’s vision has Wall Street in panic mode, with financial leaders warning that his plans could destroy the city’s economic engine. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent issued a blunt warning on FOX Business:

“If the city turns to Washington for a bailout, it won’t receive one… It’ll be the same thing Gerald Ford said. Drop dead.”

Mamdani isn’t just a fringe activist anymore. With Adams out and Cuomo unable to rally the base, he’s now the Democrat frontrunner.

That leaves one man standing between New York and a full-scale socialist experiment: Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.

Sliwa’s campaign was quick to respond, positioning him as the last viable challenger:

“Curtis Sliwa is the only candidate who can defeat Mamdani. Our team, our resources, and our funding are unmatched,” said campaign spokesperson Daniel Kurzyna.

He’s right. With Mamdani capturing the activist Left and Cuomo stuck in political purgatory, Sliwa is the only candidate offering common sense, law and order, and economic sanity.

This is more than a mayoral race it’s a referendum on the soul of New York City.

Will the Big Apple double down on progressive failure the kind that’s already driven crime through the roof and families out of the city? Or will voters wake up and stop the socialist spiral before it’s too late?

One thing is clear with Adams gone and Mamdani surging, the stakes for this election just skyrocketed.
