EPA Slashes $1.7 Billion in Grants as Trump Cracks Down on Wasteful Spending

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has cut hundreds of grants totaling $1.7 billion, marking the latest move in President Donald Trump’s effort to rein in government waste. Since Trump took office in January, the EPA has already eliminated $2 billion in spending, with a goal of recovering much more.

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, who spearheaded the initiative alongside the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) project, emphasized the agency’s commitment to protecting taxpayer dollars.

“Working hand-in-hand with DOGE to rein in wasteful federal spending, EPA has saved more than $2 billion in taxpayer money,” Zeldin said. “It is our commitment at EPA to be exceptional stewards of tax dollars.”

One of the most shocking revelations involves the Biden administration quietly funneling $20 billion from the EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund to Citibank, which held the money under the names of eight nonprofits. These groups planned to funnel the funds to other Democrat-connected organizations.

• Citibank has since frozen the funds as the Department of Justice investigates.

• $2 billion was earmarked for Power Forward Communities, a green group linked to Democrat Stacey Abrams.

• One recipient group reported just $100 in revenue in 2023 yet was somehow chosen to receive $2 billion a staggering 20 million times its reported revenue.

Zeldin likened the rushed funding to “gold bars” being shoveled out the door in a last-ditch effort to fund Biden’s political allies before the election.

“It’s extremely concerning that an organization that reported just $100 in revenue in 2023 was chosen to receive $2 billion,” Zeldin said. “That’s 20 million times the organization’s reported revenue.”

The Trump administration is aggressively working to claw back the entire $20 billion that Biden’s EPA attempted to funnel away. Unlike the reckless spending of the past, Trump is putting American taxpayers first, ensuring their money isn’t wasted on political payoffs and shady nonprofits.

Democrats spent years abusing the EPA to fund their radical green agenda, but Trump is making it clear the era of blank checks for political allies is over.
