Elon Musk Blasts French Police Raid on X as Political Attack

France launches sweeping probe into AI chatbot Grok and alleged algorithm abuse tied to Musk’s platform.

Elon Musk is punching back after French authorities stormed the Paris offices of X, formerly known as Twitter, in what he described as a “political attack” under the guise of a criminal investigation.

The raid, carried out by France’s cybercrime prosecutors on Tuesday, comes amid a growing probe into X’s algorithmic operations and Musk’s AI chatbot Grok an innovation developed by xAI and embedded into the social media platform.

The Paris public prosecutor has summoned Musk and former X CEO Linda Yaccarino to testify in April as part of the investigation, which is reportedly examining potential “algorithmic bias” and “fraudulent data extraction.”

Let’s be clear: this is not just about tech regulation. It’s another example of European bureaucrats weaponizing the legal system to target platforms that don’t conform to their progressive orthodoxy. Musk has become a lightning rod for free speech and that’s what this is really about.

The complaint that sparked the investigation? A French lawmaker alleging that biased algorithms on X could have “distorted the operation of an automated data processing system.” In other words, the left didn’t like how Grok answered politically sensitive questions.

To make matters worse, the scope of the investigation has ballooned, now involving Britain’s Information Commissioner’s Office and Europol, which claims it is investigating “illegal content” and other supposed criminal activity on X.

British regulators even announced they’re looking into Grok’s handling of personal data, with reports alleging it was used to generate nonconsensual imagery, including involving minors. X has firmly denied wrongdoing, and no public evidence has been released to support those claims.

In response to the raid, X blasted French prosecutors for bypassing international legal mechanisms and targeting employees in Paris who are not connected to the core investigation.

"The Paris Public Prosecutor’s office is plainly attempting to exert pressure on X’s senior management in the United States," the company said. "They have ignored proper legal procedures and our right to defend ourselves."

Musk didn’t hold back either, writing bluntly on the platform “This is a political attack.”

He’s right. The timing and scope of this raid reek of ideological motives. Musk’s leadership has turned X into one of the last major platforms willing to defend open discourse something that threatens the global left’s monopoly on information control.

France’s decision to cut off all communications from the prosecutor’s office on X is a perfect snapshot of the authoritarian mindset driving this. Don’t like the platform? Raid it. Silence it. Then refuse to speak on it.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that this isn’t about protecting data or investigating crime it’s about punishing dissent. And Musk, once again, is refusing to back down.
