Musk Slams California Officials for Blocking SpaceX Launches: ‘Shamelessly Breaking The Law!’
Musk threatens legal action after officials reject SpaceX launches, citing his political stance.
Elon Musk is calling out California officials for what he describes as blatant political bias after the California Coastal Commission blocked SpaceX from increasing its rocket launches. The commission’s decision to reject the U.S. Space Force’s request for more frequent launches at Vandenberg Space Force Base was made in a six-to-four vote on Thursday, sparking outrage from Musk and his supporters.
The Space Force had asked for permission to allow SpaceX to launch its Falcon 9 rockets 50 times a year, up from the current limit of 36. However, during the hearing, several commissioners made it clear that their decision was influenced by Musk’s political views, not environmental or regulatory concerns.
Caryl Hart, the commission’s chair, openly cited Musk’s involvement in politics as a reason for treating SpaceX differently from other companies. “This is about SpaceX increasing their launches,” Hart said, “the head of which has aggressively injected himself into the presidential race.” This comment came after Musk’s recent campaign stop with former President Donald Trump, where Musk endorsed Trump and encouraged voters to support him in the 2024 election.
Musk, furious over the ruling, took to X (formerly Twitter) to accuse the commission of overstepping its authority. “The Coastal Commission has one job take care of the California coast. It is illegal for them to make decisions based on what they (mostly wrongly) think are my politics,” Musk wrote. He went on to assert that his work, particularly in advancing sustainable energy, demonstrates he is far from the “far-right” label being attached to him by the commission members.
The comments made by the commissioners exposed a clear political agenda. Commissioner Mike Wilson went so far as to say that Musk’s recent public appearances alongside Trump are part of a broader political conflict that must be resisted. Meanwhile, Commissioner Gretchen Newsom accused Musk of spreading political "falsehoods" and attacking FEMA while claiming to want to help hurricane victims.
Musk wasn’t having it. “Yet here they are shamelessly breaking the law! They should resign immediately and face the appropriate legal consequences for their actions,” he declared. Musk’s legal team is reportedly exploring options to challenge the commission’s ruling, which he argues was driven by bias rather than environmental concerns.
SpaceX’s increasing number of launches is crucial not only for the company’s ambitions but also for national security, as many of these launches carry military satellites and other government payloads. By blocking the increased launches, California officials are effectively stifling both commercial and defense-related progress.
Musk, who has been vocal in his support for Trump, appears to have found himself the target of the left’s political games. But as the tech mogul continues to innovate and lead on everything from space exploration to sustainable energy, the backlash from California’s politically motivated decision could backfire.
As Trump’s close race with Vice President Kamala Harris intensifies, the stakes in this legal and political battle are growing. Voters will be watching closely to see if regulatory agencies continue to overreach and use politics to halt progress.
