Elon Musk Launches “America Party” After Fallout With Trump Over Spending Bill
Tech mogul declares war on the “uniparty” as Trump rides wave of historic legislative and diplomatic victories.

In a dramatic twist on the national stage, Elon Musk has officially launched a new political party the “America Party” after a very public fallout with President Donald Trump over government spending and the recently passed One Big, Beautiful Bill.
“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” Musk declared on X, referencing a poll he conducted. Slamming both Republicans and Democrats as a corrupt “uniparty,” Musk said, “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
The move comes after weeks of friction between Musk and Trump, triggered by Musk’s opposition to the $3.3 trillion legislative package that Trump signed into law on July 4 surrounded by House and Senate GOP leaders and a flyover of B-2 bombers to mark the moment. That bill, a cornerstone of Trump’s second-term agenda, extended historic tax cuts, poured billions into border security, and obliterated the Iranian nuclear program in a coordinated missile strike just days before.
Musk, meanwhile, has increasingly positioned himself as a populist outsider, accusing Trump of compromising with establishment forces. He even took a dark turn by suggesting without evidence that Trump might have ties to Jeffrey Epstein, though he later admitted those attacks “went too far.”
Despite his backpedaling, Musk’s break from Trump is now official, and his new party aims to disrupt the razor-thin congressional balance by targeting “2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts.” Musk said that would be enough to “serve as the deciding vote on contentious laws.”
The core principles of Musk’s “America Party” include:
Radical reductions in federal spending
Eliminating excessive regulations
Defending free speech across all platforms
Modernizing the U.S. military
Government transparency, especially regarding subsidies and special interests
While Musk claims his party will restore “freedom,” his actual political impact remains to be seen. The last successful third-party candidate was Abraham Lincoln in 1860 a comparison Musk is undoubtedly hoping to echo. But unlike Lincoln, Musk is up against a conservative juggernaut in Trump, who is racking up win after win on the world stage and at home.
Trump wasted no time firing back. Last week, he warned that the very agency Musk created Trump’s own Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) might be unleashed to investigate Musk and the vast web of taxpayer subsidies that fuel his empire. “DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon,” Trump said with characteristic bite.
With Trump solidifying control over the Republican Party and winning over independents with strong leadership and historic accomplishments, Musk’s move risks splitting the right and handing power back to the very Democrats he claims to despise.
The real test will be whether Musk can translate tweets into turnout or whether the America Party fizzles out like so many third-party dreams before it.
