Border Patrol Uncovers Sophisticated Drug Tunnel Beneath San Diego

While the Biden administration continues to downplay the chaos at our southern border, U.S. Border Patrol agents have once again uncovered just how deeply the crisis runs literally. In early April, authorities discovered a massive and highly sophisticated drug smuggling tunnel stretching nearly 3,000 feet beneath the U.S.-Mexico border from Tijuana to San Diego.

This tunnel, found under the Otay Mesa Port of Entry, was still under construction when authorities stumbled upon it. Its projected exit point was dangerously close to or even inside a commercial warehouse in San Diego. It’s clear that the cartels were preparing for major operations with U.S. soil as their destination.

Here’s what they found:

• A 2,918-foot-long tunnel, 50 feet deep, with dimensions of 42 inches tall by 28 inches wide.

• Installed lighting, electrical wiring, a ventilation system, and even a rail system for moving drugs efficiently.

• An entrance hidden beneath newly laid tile inside a residence in the Nueva Tijuana neighborhood.

Let that sink in: This was not a haphazard hole in the ground. This was an engineered underground supply chain the kind of effort that requires serious funding, manpower, and operational freedom. The kind of freedom our open-border policies are allowing criminal syndicates to exploit every day.

Since 1993, more than 95 such tunnels have been uncovered in the San Diego area alone. This isn’t new it’s just getting worse. Under this administration, we’re seeing an exponential increase in smuggling attempts, including more complex and brazen tactics like this tunnel. In 2023, Customs and Border Protection seized over 27,000 pounds of fentanyl more than double the amount in 2020.

With the federal government finally moving to fill the tunnel with concrete, officials warn that such routes are increasingly being targeted for use not just by drug traffickers but by Foreign Terrorist Organizations as well. When law enforcement sounds this kind of alarm, it’s not theoretical. It's real. And it's happening under the noses of our current so-called leadership.

Meanwhile, the Biden-Harris regime insists the border is "secure" a claim that would be laughable if it weren’t so dangerous. This administration's refusal to take real action is costing American lives and endangering our national security daily.

The message from this tunnel is clear While Washington Democrats remain willfully blind, America’s enemies are digging in literally.
