Doug Burgum Advocates for Energy Dominance as America’s Path to Global Stability

Trump’s Interior Secretary nominee outlines a bold vision for prosperity and peace through U.S. energy leadership.

Doug Burgum, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for Secretary of the Interior, is set to deliver a powerful message on Thursday, laying out how American energy dominance can serve as the cornerstone of global stability and economic prosperity. According to his prepared remarks, obtained in advance, Burgum will champion U.S. energy production as the ultimate tool for reshaping international relations and securing “world peace.”

Invoking Theodore Roosevelt’s famous adage, “speak softly and carry a big stick,” Burgum will argue that energy independence is America’s modern-day “big stick” on the global stage. “When energy production is restricted in America, it doesn’t reduce demand, it just shifts production to countries like Russia, Venezuela, and Iran – whose autocratic leaders don’t care about the environment,” Burgum is expected to say.

He will emphasize how the Department of the Interior, working in concert with Congress and the states, can drive historic advancements in energy production while protecting U.S. natural resources. "Energy Dominance can be America’s ‘big stick’ that is leveraged to achieve historic prosperity and world peace," Burgum will declare.

Burgum’s remarks will highlight his deep roots in North Dakota, a state that became a model for energy-driven economic growth under his leadership. As governor, Burgum oversaw sustainable natural resource development while maintaining some of the cleanest air and water in the nation.

“North Dakota experienced among the lowest unemployment in the nation and top real GDP growth. Demographically, we went from one of the oldest states to the youngest and attracted record levels of talent and investment capital,” Burgum will recount.

He will also point to his record of balancing economic development with respect for the land, wildlife, and tribal communities, demonstrating his readiness to lead the Department of the Interior with a steady hand.

Burgum’s testimony underscores the stark contrast between the Trump administration’s vision of energy independence and the restrictive policies of the Biden era. By prioritizing U.S. energy production, Burgum asserts, America can counteract the influence of hostile regimes, stabilize global markets, and secure a brighter future for generations to come.

His confirmation hearing is expected to serve as a rallying cry for unleashing America’s full potential in energy production, ensuring both economic strength at home and stability abroad.
