DOJ Searched for Anti-Haitian Incidents to Support Kamala Harris’ Campaign Claims

Emails reveal desperate efforts to link Republicans to hate crimes, with no evidence found.

As the Biden-Harris administration sought to pin blame on Republicans for an alleged rise in anti-Haitian hate crimes, newly obtained emails reveal a behind-the-scenes scramble by the Department of Justice (DOJ) to find any evidence to back up those claims. According to emails uncovered by The Daily Wire, the DOJ’s Community Relations Service (CRS) reached out to organizations like Catholic Charities in a desperate attempt to uncover incidents of hate against Haitians but seemingly came up empty-handed.

In mid-September, Jomaica Sherman, a Lead Conciliation Specialist at CRS, sent an email to Rachel Roberts-Pickett of Catholic Charities Dallas, writing that she and her colleagues were tasked with investigating possible hate crimes or community conflicts targeting the Haitian community. “Are you aware of any reports of hate crimes, hate incidents, or community conflicts surrounding the Haitian Community?” Sherman asked. Catholic Charities, which is funded by the federal government to assist in migrant resettlement, forwarded the request to other staff in an effort to find any such incidents.

This inquiry came as Vice President Kamala Harris was publicly accusing former President Donald Trump and Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio of inciting anti-Haitian hate crimes. On September 17, while on the campaign trail, Harris blamed Trump and Vance for bomb threats in Springfield, Ohio a city that has seen a significant influx of Haitian migrants. She claimed that their rhetoric caused schoolchildren to be evacuated and left an entire community in fear.

However, Ohio law enforcement quickly debunked these accusations, concluding that the bomb threats were hoaxes likely perpetrated by foreign actors looking to meddle in the upcoming presidential election. This finding completely undercut Harris’ narrative that Republicans were responsible for anti-Haitian sentiments.

When The Daily Wire reached out to the DOJ's CRS team for clarification on who initiated the search for anti-Haitian incidents and whether any evidence was found, the department refused to answer. Instead, a spokeswoman said, “Due to our statutory confidentiality mandate, we cannot confirm or discuss CRS’s involvement with specific groups.” The fact that Harris’ campaign has not highlighted any specific incidents since then suggests that the DOJ’s efforts turned up little, if anything, to support her claims.

Key Facts the DOJ Sought to Hide:

  • Despite aggressive efforts to find evidence, no specific incidents of anti-Haitian hate crimes or violence were identified.

  • The bomb threats in Ohio that Harris blamed on Trump and Vance were found to be hoaxes, likely perpetrated by overseas actors.

  • The Biden-Harris DOJ’s own outreach to federal contractors like Catholic Charities came up empty, as emails suggest they struggled to substantiate Harris’ accusations.

This episode raises serious questions about the Biden-Harris administration’s use of government resources to support politically motivated narratives. The timing of the DOJ’s search for evidence of anti-Haitian hate crimes suggests a coordinated effort to bolster Harris’ campaign claims against Trump and Vance an effort that ultimately backfired.

It wouldn’t be the first time the administration used disinformation to smear political opponents. The most prominent recent example involved the false claim that Border Patrol agents were "whipping" Haitian migrants at the southern border. Harris and other Democrats compared the fabricated incident to slavery, further stoking racial tensions. In reality, no whipping ever occurred, as confirmed by later investigations.

The use of government agencies to pursue baseless accusations is a concerning trend under the Biden-Harris administration. With the 2024 election looming, Americans must remain vigilant against such politically motivated tactics.
