DOJ Officials Step Down Instead of Dropping Adams Bribery Charges
Federal prosecutors refused to dismiss corruption charges against NYC Mayor Eric Adams and resigned in protest.

In a stunning display of political interference, top Justice Department officials have resigned in protest after being ordered to drop the corruption case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
Danielle R. Sassoon, the acting U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, resigned Thursday after newly installed DOJ leadership directed prosecutors to abandon the bribery case against Adams, despite overwhelming evidence of wrongdoing.
Just three days earlier, Acting U.S. Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove instructed federal prosecutors to dismiss the case, citing concerns about how it might affect Adams' supposed efforts on illegal immigration and violent crime a justification that raised immediate red flags.
Sassoon and two other prosecutors refused to comply, calling the decision politically motivated and unethical. When they continued to push back, Bove lashed out, accusing them of "insubordination" and forcing their resignations.
“The Justice Department will not tolerate the insubordination and apparent misconduct reflected in the approach that you and your office have taken in this matter,” Bove said.
The embattled New York City mayor was indicted in September for allegedly accepting $100,000 in bribes from wealthy Turkish nationals, including luxury overseas trips. Adams has pleaded not guilty, dismissing the charges as politically motivated, a common excuse among corrupt officials.
The Southern District of New York, often called the "Sovereign District" for its history of operating independently, is known for taking on high-profile corruption cases making the DOJ's interference even more alarming.
The Biden-era Justice Department gained a reputation for weaponizing the legal system, targeting political opponents while shielding corrupt Democrats. Now, with new leadership under President Trump, Americans expected a return to law and order but this latest DOJ scandal suggests deep corruption still lingers within the system.
With DOJ prosecutors resigning rather than compromising their integrity, the question remains: Who is really pulling the strings to protect Adams?
