DeSantis’ Bold Message to NYPD Sparks Friction With NYC Mayor

Florida governor warns of mass police exodus if far-left, anti-cop radical Zohran Mamdani takes control of New York City.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is urging NYPD officers to reconsider putting their lives on the line if New York City elects far-left radical Zohran Mamdani as its next mayor a man who has openly called to defund and dismantle the police.

“Do you want to go out there and risk your life knowing that the mayor hates you?” DeSantis asked, speaking directly to the thousands of officers serving under what he says could soon be a hostile and dangerous administration.

Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist, has made no secret of his anti-police agenda. Just a few examples of his statements:

  • “No, we want to defund the police.”

  • “Queer liberation means defund the police.”

  • “The boot of the NYPD is on your neck.”

  • “There is no negotiating with an institution this wicked and corrupt. Defund it. Dismantle it.”

This isn’t a fringe activist this is the man Democrats are seriously considering to lead America’s largest city.

“He is so far Left and he mixes his leftism with Islamism,” DeSantis warned. “He’s going to make the de Blasio years look like the golden age.”

DeSantis says that Mamdani’s agenda will be a disaster for public safety, driving crime rates up and police morale down and he’s offering a way out. The governor reminded NYPD officers and law-abiding New Yorkers alike that Florida is open for business and for those in law enforcement, it’s more than just talk.

“If you’re working in NYPD… you come to Florida, any state or local law-enforcement agency, you get $5,000 right at the top.”

This isn’t hypothetical. Since DeSantis took office, Florida has welcomed thousands of former New Yorkers, many fleeing cities hollowed out by leftist policies, rising crime, and Democrat-led anarchy. Public safety has become the number one issue driving that migration.

“If you say you’re going to disband the NYPD… people do respond to that,” DeSantis said. “The citizens are the ones who pay the price.”

And it’s not just the wealthy who are hurt it’s the working class and the middle class who suffer the most when soft-on-crime politicians release repeat offenders and vilify the very police sworn to protect them.

If Mamdani is elected, DeSantis predicts a mass migration out of the city, not just from cops but from families who no longer feel safe under a mayor who views law enforcement as the enemy.

This is the choice New Yorkers face: law and order, or chaos and collapse. Back the blue, or watch your city bleed.
