DeSantis Calls Special Session to Enforce Trump’s Immigration Agenda in Florida
Florida moves swiftly to crack down on illegal immigration ahead of Trump’s return.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is wasting no time in preparing for President Trump’s return to office, announcing a special legislative session to align the state’s immigration policies with the new administration’s enforcement efforts. The session, set to begin the week of January 27, will focus on strengthening Florida’s anti-sanctuary laws, holding officials accountable, and eliminating incentives for illegal immigrants to settle in the state.
DeSantis made it clear that Florida will not be a safe haven for illegal immigration, slamming both the Biden administration’s failed border policies and state-level loopholes that need to be closed immediately.
DeSantis laid out key initiatives to ensure Florida leads the charge in restoring law and order:
Holding officials accountable: Local and state officials will be required to assist federal authorities in enforcing immigration laws. Those who fail to comply will face consequences.
Eliminating incentives: Florida will end in-state tuition for illegal immigrants, a policy passed in 2014 that DeSantis called a “reward” for breaking the law.
Providing law enforcement with resources: The state will allocate additional funding to help sheriffs and local authorities crack down on illegal immigration.
Punishing sanctuary policies: Officials who violate Florida’s existing anti-sanctuary laws will be held accountable.
“We are not a sanctuary state,” DeSantis emphasized. “We banned sanctuary cities in my first year as governor. But we have a responsibility to be in this fight.” He also revealed that many local law enforcement officials are eager to assist in enforcing immigration laws but need more support.
DeSantis pointed to recent hurricane looting cases, where 40 out of 45 arrested looters were illegal immigrants, as proof of the crime crisis linked to Biden’s border failures. “How the hell is this happening here? Give me a break. Those people need to be sent back immediately,” he said.
This move solidifies Florida’s position as a national leader in the fight against illegal immigration. Unlike weak Democrat-led states that encourage lawlessness, DeSantis is ensuring Florida fully supports President Trump’s mission to secure the border.
With the Biden disaster ending and Trump’s America First policies returning, Florida is showing the rest of the country what real leadership looks like.
