DeSantis Sets His Sights on Abolishing Property Taxes and Vaccine Mandates
Florida’s governor vows to stay on offense, pushing bold conservative reforms that could reshape the future of red-state governance.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis isn’t backing down. In fact, he’s doubling down. Speaking to conservative lawmakers gathered at the State Freedom Caucus Summit in Texas on Friday, DeSantis laid out his bold next steps eliminating property taxes and ending all vaccine mandates across the Sunshine State.
“I didn’t get in there to be mushy on policy,” DeSantis told the crowd at the Omni Las Colinas Hotel. “I knew what I believed.” That belief system has fueled one of the most aggressive and successful conservative agendas in the country and he’s just getting started.
Here’s what DeSantis is planning to tackle next:
Abolish property taxes: The governor blasted the idea that homeowners essentially “rent” their land from the government, hinting at a structural overhaul of how Florida funds public services.
Medical freedom overhaul: Backed by Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo, DeSantis wants to end all vaccine mandates including those required in schools putting health decisions firmly back in the hands of individuals and parents.
Partner with Trump on border enforcement: Florida plans to expand its illegal alien detention efforts in cooperation with the next Trump administration, following a key federal court victory that preserved the state’s Alligator Alcatraz facility.
As a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus, DeSantis' message to lawmakers was clear: Be bold, and don't flinch in the face of liberal lawsuits. “Every time I get out of bed in the morning, I get sued by the Left,” he joked, before adding that conservative leaders must govern with courage, not caution.
During his speech, DeSantis reminded the audience of his hardline record:
Opposition to COVID lockdowns that crushed economies and lives.
Protecting parental rights in schools against radical gender and race indoctrination.
Banning DEI programs at public universities, stripping out divisive and discriminatory ideological training.
Taking on Disney, exposing the entertainment giant’s woke agenda and special privileges.
DeSantis also celebrated a recent legal win from the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, which blocked a left-wing attempt to shut down Florida’s detention center for illegal aliens. His administration plans to build more such centers with federal support under a future Trump administration a powerful sign of unity and preparedness as the nation inches closer to 2024.
What sets DeSantis apart is his unapologetic willingness to fight. While Democrats play defense, mired in lawsuits and bureaucratic excuses, DeSantis is pushing a model of conservative governance that delivers results.
“People vote with their feet,” DeSantis said, referring to the wave of Americans relocating to Florida in record numbers. The state has gained over 800,000 residents since 2020 many fleeing high-tax, pro-lockdown blue states.
With Biden’s approval rating sinking below 35% in recent polling and the nation reeling from inflation, illegal immigration, and left-wing overreach, the DeSantis blueprint is gaining traction. It's clear: leadership grounded in conservative principles isn’t just possible it's popular.
