Democrats Meltdown After Senate Reopens Government Without Caving on Health Care Demands
While Americans get relief from a shutdown, Democrat leaders rage that Trump didn’t bend to their big-government agenda.

When the Senate voted late Sunday night to end the government shutdown, you’d think there would have been relief across Washington. Instead, Democrats lost their minds.
Why? Because a clean continuing resolution passed without tying it to their demand for a massive health care overhaul. Eight Democrats joined Senate Republicans to move forward with reopening the government, a move that sent the progressive wing of the party into a full-blown tantrum.
Senator Bernie Sanders led the charge, calling the vote a betrayal of the American people and warning that it would lead to “20 million Americans” paying higher premiums and “15 million people being thrown off Medicaid.” He even claimed it would result in “50,000 unnecessary deaths a year.”
Let’s get real:
The bill was a temporary funding measure not a policy overhaul.
Medicaid enrollment remains at historic highs post-COVID.
Obamacare premiums have skyrocketed 57% since 2013, according to HHS data.
But none of that stopped Democrats from turning a routine funding vote into a dramatic indictment of “Trumpism,” blaming Republicans for what they’re calling a “health care crisis.” Never mind the fact that Democrats controlled the Senate, the House, and the White House for two years and failed to pass any meaningful reform themselves.
Senator Chuck Schumer who ironically voted against the resolution declared, “America is in the midst of a Republican-made health care crisis,” despite his own party being in power just months ago. He demanded a funding bill that would magically “bring costs down,” while offering no serious plan to do it.
Over in the House, Rep. Adam Schiff echoed the hysteria, calling the bill a disaster for Californians and blasting it for not protecting “pre-existing conditions” even though those protections remain intact under existing law.
And then there was Rep. Ro Khanna, who went so far as to call for Schumer’s resignation as Senate Majority Leader, claiming he’s “no longer effective.” Democrats eating their own? Shocking.
Even Senator Chris Murphy chimed in from his office late at night, warning that the vote would “embolden Trump,” claiming that reopening the government without cave-ins would somehow fuel “illegality” and “authoritarianism.”
The left’s real gripe? They didn’t get to hijack a shutdown to push a bloated health care agenda the American people aren’t buying.
Let’s not forget:
President Trump donated every penny of his presidential salary.
His administration expanded access to price transparency in healthcare.
Under Biden, average family premiums hit nearly $24,000/year, with out-of-pocket costs surging.
Yet Democrats want to paint Trump as the villain while their own policies wreck affordability and access.
This wasn’t about healthcare. It was about power and using fear to get their way.
Thankfully, common sense prevailed. The government is reopening. Hardworking Americans won’t be held hostage. And despite the angry midnight videos and melodramatic speeches, the country moves forward.
