Dallas Mayor Warns ICE Facility Shooting ‘Won’t Be the Last’ Amid Surge in Political Violence

Democrat-turned-Republican says left-wing rhetoric is fueling deadly hostility toward law enforcement.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson is sounding the alarm after a deadly attack on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility left one person dead and two others injured, warning that unless political leaders confront rising left-wing hostility toward law enforcement, this tragedy “won’t be the last.”

Speaking on America’s Newsroom Thursday morning, Johnson a former Democrat who switched to the Republican Party in 2023 blamed the attack on a growing climate of political extremism, particularly on the Left, which he says has normalized violence as a tool to achieve policy goals.

“We see that there’s increasing tolerance for political violence as a way to bring about policy change, particularly on the Left,” Johnson said. “If we don’t do something about it, this won’t be the last one.”

The remarks came one day after alleged gunman Joshua Jahn opened fire on an ICE facility in Dallas before taking his own life. The attack, which occurred just miles from a July ambush in Alvarado, Texas, marks the latest in a series of assaults targeting federal immigration enforcement.

Johnson, once a rising star in the Democratic Party, didn’t hold back in blaming his former colleagues for fueling anti-ICE hysteria to score political points.

  • He said Democrats have pandered to activist mobs since the BLM riots of 2020 by demonizing law enforcement officers as dangerous and unaccountable.

  • Now, the same tactic is being used to vilify ICE agents, creating a toxic environment that emboldens extremists.

  • Democrat leaders like Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass have publicly attacked ICE policies, while remaining silent about the growing violence targeting agents.

“There’s a confluence of events that’s leading to these unfortunate attacks,” Johnson warned. “And we must confront the rhetoric before more lives are lost.”

The Dallas shooting is not an isolated incident. In July, left-wing anarchists attacked an ICE facility in Alvarado, using fireworks to lure officers outside before opening fire. One police officer was shot in the neck. The attackers carried fliers reading “FIGHT ICE TERROR WITH CLASS WAR!” and “FREE ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS.”

Now, in the wake of this latest shooting, one thing is clear: the consequences of demonizing ICE aren’t just political they’re deadly.

While President Trump has remained vocal in his support for ICE, calling its agents the “unsung heroes” of national security, Democratic leaders have either downplayed or outright excused the violence targeting them. The Biden administration has yet to issue any formal statement condemning the attack.

That silence speaks volumes.

If elected officials continue to legitimize lawlessness by treating federal agents like villains, it’s only a matter of time before more radicalized individuals take matters into their own hands with bloodshed to follow.

Mayor Johnson’s warning should be a wake-up call to every elected leader in America: Violent rhetoric leads to violent outcomes. The time to act is now, before more innocent lives are lost in the crossfire of political extremism.
