After weeks of silence and legal pressure, The Daily Beast has publicly apologized to former First Lady Melania Trump and retracted a story that falsely tied her to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The article, which claimed she was introduced to President Trump through an Epstein-linked modeling agent, was based on flimsy allegations from serial fabulist Michael Wolff and has now been pulled from all platforms.

The apology, issued Monday, comes after Melania Trump’s legal team demanded the outlet retract the article and podcast content, calling out the headline and overall framing as defamatory. The Daily Beast admitted the story “did not meet our standards,” a rare confession from a media outlet that has routinely trafficked in baseless smears against conservative figures.

“We apologize to the first lady and our readers,” the statement read, which Melania Trump shared on X, making clear she’s not backing down from media lies.

The article was originally tied to an interview on The Daily Beast Podcast, where Wolff known for his scandal-peddling books like Fire and Fury made the baseless claim that Melania was “very involved” in Epstein’s network through a modeling agent allegedly connected to both Trump and Epstein. No evidence was provided, and Wolff has since refused to comment further.

Let’s not forget, this is the same Michael Wolff who:

• Falsely hinted at an affair between Trump and Nikki Haley in 2018, which even left-wing hosts called “disgusting.”

• Fabricated quotes in his book Fire and Fury according to multiple people in Trump’s inner circle.

• Was kicked off MSNBC live after being accused of smearing women for sport.

Yet despite Wolff’s lack of credibility, The Daily Beast was more than happy to run with his wild speculation so long as it could damage Trump’s name and reputation. This wasn’t journalism. It was partisan fiction dressed up as a headline.

The article and podcast were only pulled after Melania Trump’s attorneys got involved, which raises a bigger question: How many other unverified hit pieces from the left-wing media are being pushed without accountability?

This episode is a glaring example of how far the liberal press is willing to go to smear political opponents. Rather than focus on actual issues, media operatives use figures like Epstein to create guilt-by-association narratives even when those narratives collapse under basic scrutiny.

Meanwhile, Epstein's real political enablers many of them left-wing elites continue to enjoy media protection. Figures like Bill Clinton, who actually flew on Epstein’s private jet multiple times, somehow escape the same level of breathless coverage.

Melania Trump, a private citizen and former First Lady, deserves better than being slandered for clickbait. And Americans deserve a press that holds itself to a higher standard not one that needs a legal threat to retract a lie.
