Ted Cruz Exposes China's Plot to Cripple American Energy

Senate hearing reveals how Beijing is using U.S. climate groups to undermine domestic energy and boost Chinese dominance.

In a fiery Senate Judiciary hearing Wednesday, Senator Ted Cruz pulled back the curtain on what he called a “coordinated assault” by China and the radical Left to sabotage American energy independence. His warning? The United States is being quietly undermined by foreign interests through the very climate advocacy groups that claim to be saving the planet.

“We are witnessing right now a systematic campaign against American energy,” Cruz declared. “There is a coordinated assault by the radical Left, backed and paid for by the Chinese Communist Party.”

At the center of the senator’s case is Energy Foundation China (EFC), an organization with direct ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). According to findings from watchdog group State Armor, the CCP is funneling money through this foundation to progressive climate organizations in the U.S. with the goal of making America more dependent on Chinese-controlled green tech.

  • China currently dominates the global supply chain for lithium, cobalt, and rare earth elements, which are essential for wind, solar, and electric vehicle technologies.

  • From 2001 to 2020, EFC funneled over $1 billion in grants to hundreds of climate advocacy groups, many of which regularly sue American energy producers.

  • These groups include the Natural Resources Defense Council, known for flooding the courts with litigation aimed at crippling U.S. fossil fuel companies.

Cruz didn’t stop at foreign funding. He exposed how CCP-backed groups are also influencing the American judiciary. Through the Climate Judiciary Project, judges who preside over environmental cases are receiving training and support from the same ideological organizations filing the lawsuits all while claiming to be “impartial.”

“This three-pronged strategy foreign funding, mass litigation, and judicial indoctrination is a full-spectrum assault on American energy independence,” Cruz warned. “And while China drills and digs, we sue and shut down.”

Meanwhile, Democrats like Senator Sheldon Whitehouse dismissed the entire exposé as “a conspiracy,” claiming that oil industry “dark money” is the real threat. But that deflection misses the point: while American progressives are obsessed with demonizing U.S. energy, China is laughing all the way to the lithium bank.

Cruz made it clear: China is not funding American climate activism out of goodwill. It’s doing so because weakening U.S. energy makes Beijing stronger.

If we don't wake up to this reality, America will find itself completely reliant on Chinese technology for power, vehicles, and critical infrastructure all while the CCP strengthens its global dominance.
