Jasmine Crockett Backpedals After Calling Hispanic Trump Voters 'Slave Mentality'
Texas Democrat stumbles as past racist remarks resurface amid uphill Senate bid.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett, the far-left Texas Democrat now running for U.S. Senate, attempted damage control Tuesday after resurfaced comments showed her comparing Hispanic Trump voters to slaves with a "slave mentality."
The remarks, originally made in a 2024 Vanity Fair interview, have ignited backlash across the state and beyond particularly among the very Latino voters who propelled President Donald Trump to a landslide victory in Texas in 2024.
In the interview, Crockett said:
“It almost reminds me of what people would talk about when they would talk about kind of like ‘slave mentality’ and the hate that some slaves would have for themselves.”
“It is wild to me when I hear how anti-immigrant they are as immigrants, many of them. I’m talking about people that literally just got here and can barely vote.”
But when CNN’s Jake Tapper confronted Crockett about her own words this week, the Democrat immediately tried to walk them back.
“No, and that’s not what that said at all, to be clear,” Crockett insisted, even though the quote was read back to her.
Tapper pressed further, asking if Hispanic voters who support strong borders or Trump’s immigration agenda still have a "slave mentality." Crockett deflected again:
“I don’t believe that the people that voted for Trump believe in what they’re actually getting,” she claimed.
Crockett then attempted to justify her views by citing Trump’s immigration enforcement, falsely blaming him for policies such as “locking up kids and putting them in cages” conveniently ignoring the fact that those cages were built under the Obama-Biden administration, a documented fact even liberal outlets have confirmed.
The real issue here? Crockett can’t square her radical, race-based rhetoric with the growing number of Latino Americans turning their backs on the Democratic Party. In 2024, Trump made historic gains among Hispanic voters, especially in Texas border counties where communities are fed up with illegal immigration, high crime, and the cultural elitism of the progressive left.
But Crockett didn’t stop at attacking Latinos. In the same interview, she lashed out at:
White women, saying she doesn’t trust them because “they failed Hillary Clinton.”
Black men, accusing them of “flaking” on Kamala Harris in 2020.
This is the candidate Democrats are now pinning their hopes on to flip a Texas Senate seat? A woman who divides voters by race, slanders minorities who dare to think independently, and openly admits she doesn’t trust entire demographics if they vote the “wrong” way?
Crockett’s desperate spin won’t change the facts:
Trump won Texas comfortably in 2024, increasing his margin in Latino-heavy counties.
No Democrat has won a U.S. Senate race in Texas since 1988.
And no Democrat will win if their message is, “You’re too dumb or brainwashed to know what’s good for you.”
Texas voters regardless of race are rejecting the politics of racial division and victimhood. They want secure borders, safe streets, and real economic opportunity. Crockett’s inflammatory rhetoric may play well in the Vanity Fair green rooms, but it’s political poison in the Lone Star State.
Share this with someone who knows that voting for Trump isn’t a "slave mentality" it’s common sense.
