Congo’s President Offers Trump Administration Exclusive Mineral Deal in Exchange for Security Pact

U.S. poised to secure critical resources, counter China and Russia, and help defeat ISIS-linked rebels.

In a bold move to secure his nation’s future and deepen ties with the United States Félix Tshisekedi, President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has offered exclusive access to Congo’s vast mineral wealth in exchange for U.S. military assistance to help crush powerful rebel factions destabilizing the country.

In a letter sent to President Donald Trump last month, Tshisekedi proposed “mining opportunities for the U.S. Sovereign Wealth Fund,” a fund Trump created after returning to office, aimed at reinforcing American economic dominance worldwide. The deal includes access to critical minerals such as cobalt, lithium, copper, and tantalum vital resources for sectors like defense, communications, aerospace, and electric vehicles.

Tshisekedi’s appeal wasn’t just economic. He requested a formal security pact to strengthen Congo’s military against insurgent groups, some linked to ISIS and other terrorist organizations. For decades, these rebel factions have plagued the eastern region of Congo, stemming from the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide in 1994. Ethnic tensions and external meddling, particularly by Rwanda and Uganda, continue to fuel the violence.

Key takeaways from the offer:

  • Strategic minerals secured for the U.S. economy.

  • Direct blow to Chinese and Russian influence, which has been spreading aggressively across Africa.

  • A chance to eliminate ISIS-linked rebels and stabilize a key partner.

A U.N. panel of experts confirmed in December that Rwanda had dispatched 4,000 troops to assist the M23 rebel group, further complicating the situation. Tshisekedi’s letter highlights growing concerns that neighboring nations are exploiting Congo’s chaos to plunder its natural resources resources America now has an opportunity to control and protect.

Trump’s foreign policy has always prioritized American interests and economic leverage. A deal like this would not only ensure U.S. companies secure critical minerals, but also counter decades of Chinese and Russian efforts to box America out of Africa.

With Congo’s natural resources essential for everything from electric vehicles to advanced weapons systems, this is a golden opportunity for Trump to expand American dominance, protect global supply chains, and deliver yet another win on the world stage.
