Commerce Secretary Raimondo Suggests Trump Fabricated Job Numbers Released by Biden’s Labor Dept
Raimondo struggles to defend Biden administration amid major job report scandal.
Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo found herself in hot water during a live interview on Wednesday after making the baseless claim that Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump fabricated job numbers that were, in fact, released by President Joe Biden’s own Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The controversy centers around a significant downward revision of job growth figures, which slashes earlier estimates by over 800,000 jobs.
The BLS announced that job growth for the 12 months ending in March was overestimated by a whopping 818,000 jobs, a revision amounting to roughly 0.5% of all jobs—a drop not seen in decades. This revelation undermines the Biden administration’s narrative of a strong labor market and raises questions about the accuracy of its economic reports.
During an ABC News interview, Raimondo was asked whether this damaging jobs report could impact Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign. Rather than address the substance of the report, Raimondo falsely suggested that Trump was to blame. “No, when I hear that, first of all, I don’t believe it because I have never heard Donald Trump saying anything truthful,” she said.
The ABC News host quickly corrected her, pointing out that the data in question came directly from the Bureau of Labor. Raimondo’s response? “I’m not familiar with that,” she claimed, a puzzling remark given her position as Commerce Secretary.
Key Points:
Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo falsely accused Trump of fabricating job numbers that were actually released by Biden’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The BLS recently revised job growth figures downward by 818,000 jobs, a massive adjustment that casts doubt on the Biden administration's economic claims.
Raimondo’s comments come amid a broader controversy over the accuracy of the administration's economic reporting.
Earlier this week, Raimondo also took a swipe at Republicans, saying her biggest gripe with the GOP is that they “just peddle bulls***.” Ironically, it was Raimondo who found herself accused of spreading falsehoods during the ABC interview.
Trump was quick to seize on the revised job report, calling it a “MASSIVE SCANDAL” in a social media post. “The Harris-Biden Administration has been caught fraudulently manipulating Job Statistics to hide the true extent of the Economic Ruin they have inflicted upon America,” Trump wrote. He accused the administration of padding job numbers with an extra 818,000 jobs that “DO NOT EXIST, AND NEVER DID.”
Trump’s scathing critique didn’t stop there. He warned that if “Comrade Kamala” gets another four years, millions more jobs would disappear, and inflation would continue to devastate the country. “YOUR LIFE SAVINGS WILL BE WIPED OUT,” Trump cautioned, while promising that a Trump victory would restore “the Greatest Economy in History.”
As the Biden administration struggles to defend its economic record, Raimondo’s blunder highlights the growing desperation within Democrat ranks to distract from the harsh realities of their policies.
