James Comey Deletes Cryptic '86 47' Post After Backlash Over Trump Threat
FBI Director Kash Patel confirms investigation after former FBI chief posts message interpreted as violent call against President Trump.

Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey is under fire once again this time for an Instagram post that many believe crossed the line into a direct threat against President Donald Trump.
The post in question showed seashells arranged in the numbers “86 47”, a combination widely interpreted to mean “get rid of 47” referring to Trump, the 47th president. Comey captioned the post with a casual remark “Cool shell formation on my beach walk.”
But no one was buying the innocent act and the reaction was immediate and intense.
“Just James Comey casually calling for my dad to be murdered. This is who the Dem-Media worships. Demented!!!!” Donald Trump Jr. posted on X.
Others were just as blunt:
Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN): “Would he like to explain what he means by this given the assassination attempts on President Trump?”
Meghan McCain: “Don’t know how this can be interpreted as any other way but a threat… Is everyone mentally ill?”
Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL): “This is a direct THREAT… James Comey MUST face consequences.”
Even more concerning, FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that the Bureau was actively reviewing the post in coordination with the Secret Service, stating:
“We are aware of the recent social media post by former FBI Director James Comey, directed at President Trump. We are in communication with the Secret Service and Director Curran.”
The controversy forced Comey to delete the post and issue a feeble explanation, claiming he thought the message was “political rather than threatening” and that he had “no idea” the numbers were associated with violent connotations.
“I didn’t realize some folks associate those numbers with violence. It never occurred to me,” Comey wrote. “I oppose violence of any kind so I took the post down.”
But critics weren’t buying it and for good reason.
“Yes, I’m sure the guy who once ran the FBI was just clueless on this one,” remarked Greg Price, echoing the sentiment of millions of Americans.
This is the same James Comey who weaponized the FBI against a sitting president, leaked classified memos, and fumbled the Clinton investigation in ways that still reek of deep state protectionism. Now he’s posting cryptic messages that clearly echo the language of assassination, then playing dumb when called out.
The phrase “86” is well-known slang for eliminating someone, and “47” is an obvious reference to Trump, who is currently the front-runner to return to the White House. That the man once entrusted with the top law enforcement agency in the country didn’t understand the implications? Laughable at best, sinister at worst.
And let’s not forget President Trump has already survived two assassination attempts. There’s nothing funny or harmless about this.
Once again, the Left’s double standard is on full display. Imagine if a former Trump official had posted something even remotely close to this about Joe Biden. The media would be in meltdown mode, DOJ prosecutors would be lined up, and CNN would be holding wall-to-wall panels on “right-wing extremism.”
But when it’s James Comey one of the swamp’s darlings the best they can muster is silence or excuses.
It’s time to stop pretending this is normal. The weaponization of our institutions has real consequences. And when former officials start playing word games with political violence, the consequences could be deadly.
