CNN Clings to ‘Maryland Man’ Label for Suspected MS-13 Gang Member

As Trump administration deports Kilmar Abrego Garcia, media still plays defense for alleged human smuggler.

CNN and the legacy media are at it again bending reality to preserve their favorite narratives, even as facts crash down around them.

This time, it’s over Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Salvadoran national accused of human smuggling, with suspected MS-13 ties, who was finally detained by ICE and deported just as the Trump administration promised. But rather than refer to him as what he is a criminal alien CNN continues to desperately label him as simply a “Maryland man.”

Seriously?

In its latest coverage, CNN wrote “Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man who was unlawfully deported to El Salvador earlier this year, was taken into custody by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement…”

No mention of his gang ties. No emphasis on the smuggling charges. Just a soft, sanitized narrative of a misunderstood "local man" caught up in Trump’s immigration enforcement.

Here’s what they conveniently leave out:

  • Abrego Garcia was arrested in Tennessee driving a van full of illegal immigrants.

  • DHS has linked him to the violent MS-13 gang, though a liberal judge rejected the evidence.

  • His own wife accused him of domestic abuse.

  • He originally entered the U.S. illegally, was deported once, then brought back by court order thanks to Democrat interference.

But hey, CNN says he’s a “Maryland man,” so that’s all you need to know.

Let’s be clear: Being physically present in Maryland doesn’t make someone a “Maryland man.” It makes them a Salvadoran national illegally residing in Maryland especially when they can’t even speak English and give press conferences in Spanish while begging to avoid deportation.

Social media wasted no time tearing this charade apart. “How many ‘Maryland Men’ can’t speak English?” one user asked. “Goodbye, ‘Maryland Man,’” Townhall quipped, as Abrego Garcia was taken back into custody. “The Maryland man brand lives on!” added Fox News’ Bill Melugin, capturing the absurdity.

The truth is this: legacy media outlets like CNN aren’t interested in truth they’re interested in spin. If it helps paint Trump’s enforcement of immigration laws as heartless or extreme, they’ll call gang members “local dads” and smugglers “neighbors.”

And of course, Democrats played their part too. They helped drag this man back into the U.S. legal system, challenged his deportation at every step, and now his lawyers are suing again this time to stop his deportation to Uganda, where DHS says he can safely reside.

Because apparently, even convicted criminals shouldn’t be deported if they once had a ZIP code in a blue state.

This is why the border crisis continues. When activist judges, radical attorneys, and complicit media all work together to rewrite reality, the law becomes meaningless and so does national sovereignty.
