Amanpour Remarks That Israeli Hostages May Have Been Treated Better Than Gazans
Christiane Amanpour sparks outrage with shocking defense of Hamas hostage conditions.

Leave it to CNN to twist reality into moral absurdity. In a jaw-dropping statement that sparked widespread backlash, longtime CNN international anchor Christiane Amanpour suggested that Israeli hostages held by Hamas were likely “treated better” than average Gazan civilians.
Yes, you read that right.
Amanpour, speaking on-air shortly after the final group of hostages was released on Monday following over two years of brutal captivity claimed that Hamas treated the Israeli hostages with more care than it did its own population, supposedly because the hostages held more "value" as negotiation pawns.
“They’re probably being treated better than the average Gazan,” Amanpour stated, suggesting that because Hamas saw them as bargaining chips, they would have received better conditions.
What Amanpour conveniently left out was the horrific, documented abuse these hostages endured:
Numerous hostages were executed, regardless of their supposed “value” to Hamas.
Survivors report being starved, tortured, and sexually abused during their time underground.
Evyatar David, one of the released hostages, was so emaciated upon his return that photos showed him digging his own grave under Hamas supervision.
The statement from Israel’s Foreign Ministry said it best. “What on earth are you talking about?? The hostages were starved, tortured, and subjected to sexual violence. Your words are Hamas propaganda on steroids.”
Even CNN viewers were stunned. Joel Pollak of Breitbart chimed in, pointing out that Amanpour “knows the hostages did not receive the aid Israel allowed into Gaza or medicines that were specifically sent to them.” Yet she still peddled a narrative that can only be described as a willful distortion of truth.
It’s yet another example of the mainstream media and CNN in particular bending over backwards to sanitize terrorist behavior while demonizing Israel. This isn’t journalism. It’s propaganda masquerading as analysis.
Let’s be clear: no civilian should suffer under war. But comparing the plight of people knowingly used as human shields by Hamas to the hostages deliberately hidden, abused, and denied medicine is not just inaccurate it’s immoral.
While Amanpour waxes philosophical about “balance” and “context,” the real context is this:
Over 1,200 Israelis were murdered in Hamas’s Oct 7 attacks.
At least 30 children were among those taken hostage.
Many hostages are returning home permanently scarred, both physically and mentally.
So, no they weren’t “probably treated better.” They were dehumanized in ways Hamas never inflicts on its own.
CNN should be ashamed, but don’t hold your breath for accountability. Their priority has never been truth it's shaping narratives that fit their globalist, leftist worldview, no matter the human cost.
