FBI Arrests Chinese Nationals in Multi-Million Dollar Drug Operation Tied to Immigration Abuse

Crime syndicate exploited Biden-era border failures and immigration loopholes to run illegal grow houses across the Northeast.

While the Biden administration continues to ignore the dangers of a broken immigration system, the FBI has just exposed one of the most brazen criminal operations in recent years a multi-million dollar drug ring run by Chinese nationals, stretching from Massachusetts to Maine.

Seven Chinese nationals have been charged in a massive marijuana trafficking conspiracy that exploited our immigration laws, our communities, and our national security. The ringleader, Jianxiong Chen, not only oversaw an illegal drug operation he smuggled Chinese nationals across the Mexican border and forced them to work in drug houses to pay off their passage.

This is not just about marijuana it's about foreign actors using America’s open borders and weak leadership to build black-market empires right under our noses.

  • The operation, active since 2020, involved kilogram-level marijuana distribution and money laundering across several states.

  • Federal agents recovered over 109 kilograms of marijuana, nearly $470,000 in cash, a $65,000 Rolex, a Porsche, and multiple Chinese passports during raids.

  • In Maine alone, at least 270 illegal grow operations linked to Chinese nationals have been identified by Border Patrol, with estimated value in the billions.

“This case pulls back the curtain on a sprawling criminal enterprise that exploited our immigration system,” said U.S. Attorney Leah Foley. These criminals operated out of “quiet homes across the Northeast,” turning ordinary neighborhoods into hubs for transnational crime.

The mastermind, Jianxiong Chen, reportedly lived in Braintree, Massachusetts, and used the porous southern border to smuggle in foreign nationals, holding their passports hostage until they "paid off" their labor in grow houses. FBI Special Agent Ted Docks confirmed Chen used illegal labor to run these operations and launder millions in profits.

The implications go far beyond just Massachusetts and Maine. Chinese-backed marijuana operations have exploded across the country, with major busts in New Mexico, Oklahoma, and other states many of which began only after the border crisis spiraled out of control under Biden’s watch.

Meanwhile, congressional leaders are finally launching investigations, calling out the national security threats these operations pose. But one thing is clear: none of this would be possible without the wide-open border policies and immigration neglect of this administration.

This bust should serve as a wake-up call: criminals and foreign adversaries are watching and they’re taking full advantage of our broken system. It’s past time for real leadership that prioritizes border security, law enforcement, and the rule of law.
